Union Pitchside Podcast

With the Union streaking toward a showdown with fast-rising DC United, we answer a listener question: How do the Union play soccer, and what are the principles that guide their style of play?

Next, Adam steps away from the mic - or, more accurately, HG Records takes over the pod - as Mark McKenzie, Auston Trusty, Matt Real, and Anthony Fontana discuss playing in the Homegrown Game, who would win at different sports, and, of course, clothes and style.

Last, we take a look at Bethlehem Steel's recent good form and how young Union talent like Real, Olivier Mbaizo, Ben Ofeimu, and Brenden Aaronson have helped Steel to win six of their last seven games. Be the first to know about the next wave of guys who will be fighting for a spot in the first team.

With 11 games to play, the Union are in a tight playoff race with Montreal Impact, New England Revolution, and maybe even Toronto FC. We dive into the upcoming schedules for each team, focusing on the quality of their opponents and how much rest they have between games.

Next, the Union Pitchside Pod takes you Ernst-side - we have an extended interview with new Union sporting director Ernst Tanner. Give it a listen and send any questions you think we missed to [email protected].

Last, we jump off from last week's games, which included a win to send the Union back to the US Open Cup final and Jack Elliott's unlikely brace against New England Revolution to look back at the 1960 US Open Cup between Philly's own Ukrainian Nationals and Los Angeles Kickers, a match in which Mike Noha scored more than double what Elliott managed against the Revs (Five! He scored five %$#& goals!). Something to work toward, Jack!

Our pilot episode brings you an exclusive one-on-one interview with former Union Sporting Director, Earnie Stewart.
