On the heels of a series of well-received releases, Seattle's beloved house music collective and label Uniting Souls Music returns for its 42nd outing with Jordan Strong & Lil’T’s “Unite” featuring James Weston on vocals & guitar, and Art Es on the saxophone. The 5-track EP embodying the ethos of the group with a diversity of styles ranging from deep to tech and featuring remixes by Onionz, SAAND, Jeromy Nail, and Rare Static.
(Original Mix) Los Angeles native and underground house music savant Jordan Strong and longtime compatriot Lil’T (aka Michael Tello, PillowTalk Music, Touch of Class, Housepitality) join forces on “Unite,” a moody, dubbed-out house chugger. Underscored by a thick bassline, awash in lush chords, spaced-out sax and guitar, and punctuated by James’ spoken word, the track takes us on a hypnotic syncopated trip and urges, perhaps apropos in these trying times, to “come together.”
(Onionz Remix) Uniting Souls is excited to welcome back New York house music legend DJ Onionz to the label. Flipping the script, Onionz delivers a melodic, synth heavy reimagining of the original, recontextualizing the spoken word chants over hard beats and big square bass, effortlessly moving us into the twilight realm. A late night dance-floor choice cut!
(SAAND Remix) Next up on remix duties, LA-based DJ and producer SAAND (aka Michael Sandler) keeps the vibe of the original, reworking the bassline into a subtle melodic groove that touches on psychedelic. Having made a name for himself across a variety of genres, SAAND stays true to his self-described ‘melancholic audio’ pseudonym on this one. A slow-burner for the heads.
(Jeromy Nail Remix) Longtime Uniting Souls resident DJ and Seattle-based producer, Jeromy Nail picks up the tempo with a deep, tech-house flavored rendition that channels the spirit of the original with ethereal synths and delayed vocal stabs but over a driving beat and bassline. Check it.
(Rare Static Remix) Rounding things out, California-based duo Rare Static (aka Oscar Miranda and Nick Garcia) come in hot with an uplifting funked-up version, a jazzy-house jacker sure to get the floor moving. With previous releases on revered labels such Minority Music, Robsoul Recordings, Jump Recordings, Fabric, and Duffelbag, the brothers born of different mothers deliver a fresh take on the original.
