I think it's really important for us to value #curiosity and a curious #mindset. Always ask #why? When I’m facing a new #problem, I like to ask why five times. Each time builds on the previous answer. This enables me to get at the root of the challenge. Full transcript available at dranthony.design
Don't live by someone else's #expectations or #judgments, make your #decisions and stand by them as best you can. That should always come with the footnote that those decisions should hopefully never #impact your #health and #welfare and #safety. So if your health, welfare, and safety are being impacted, then you might want to look a little bit more critically at that #relationship. Full transcript available at dranthony.design
Go out and just listen to someone's #story, ask them a question about their #past, ask them a question about their #childhood. Whenever I meet someone new I always try to find ways of getting back into their #roots, where are they anchored geographically, socially, ideologically, try to understand a bit more about them and their past and their experiences, how that's led them to where they are today. You have some #control over the #decisions that you make, depending on who you are, and what kind of situation you find yourself in. But you don’t always have control over the #options that are available to you. Full transcript available at dranthony.design
Nobody's gonna be upset if you don't #commit yourself for years and years to a project. If you're just working on it for two weeks, great, you've got that #experience, you got that chance to grow, you got that chance to learn. #Volunteering is key, early in your career, middle your career, late in your career, every part of your career, in order to advance to that next step. If you've got a great #idea, and a great group of people who support that idea, who are pushing that boundary, then you can go really far. Everything else you can kind of figure out as you go along. Full transcript available at dranthony.design
If you are an #immigrant like me and you have a tough time learning new #languages, it's okay. There are many ways that you can contribute to the world that you live in, to the society you live in, and you still have a right to be wherever you are. And I think that's really important for us to acknowledge and recognize that you're going to get better over time. Full transcript available at dranthony.design
If you're like me, you live by a certain set of #rules. Some of these rules are in your head and some of them are written down. These rules change the way I think and the way I act. It is important for us to interrogate the process of #rulemaking, rule changing, and then, of course, putting rules into practice, the #implementation of those rules. My #career was not linear by any stretch of the imagination. There were a series of #transitions, and while those transitions were key, #junctures were also turning points in my life, my interests in industry, #academia, #entrepreneurship, were always running in parallel with each other. Perhaps earlier in your #career, it's a good idea to go for the name. Get the biggest company that will hire you, get the biggest salary, get the biggest name on your CV. But eventually, there's going to be a turning point, and I hope that you learn to choose the people you work with based on who they are and not the institution that they belong.
