In this episode of Unlabelled Unstructured, we have Ran Oren, a University of Waterloo Systems Design Engineering student working in the data science field. He is here today to talk about how to break into the data science field as a student and the differences between computer science and data science.

Ran has held over 6 internships in machine learning and data science. He is currently working as a data scientist intern at Facebook. Previously, he has also worked at Wish on the Data Relevancy and Machine Learning teams. As well, Ran has worked in the financial industry (TD Securities and Deloitte) and in the research field as a machine learning research assistant.

He's a UWaterloo CS alum who started his own startup while still in university, scaled that to 2 mill views a day, and got great internships like Bloomberg. And he did all this while maintaining a 96% cumulative average.

To take a break from all this, he then chose the "easy life" and worked at Google for a year which he then left to start Snaptravel, now Snapcommerce.
