I am happy to have my dear friend Joy Lapps-Lewis join us in this episode. Joy is a Canadian musician, composer, academic, and arts educator of Antiguan and Barbudan descent and identifies as a Black Woman. In our conversation, we discuss her experience as a Black Woman living in Canada. As an Artist, Arts Educator, Composer, and overall creative genius, how has she witnessed racist rhetoric, practices, systems, etc., reflected in the Arts Community.
What happens now? Her thoughts on how people can support her and other Black Creatives in the Arts community.
Today I am bringing another episode in a new Series I am calling (UN)Learn to Learn. This series is created to continue essential conversations and dialogue on the Black Experience, Anti-Black Racism, and its effects on society and Black People. I will be sharing my personal experiences and speaking to my Black friends, family, community members, academics, artists, influencers, business owners, etc., so they can share their stories and education on The Black Experience. I want to continue to share the realities of Black People Living in our society plagued with white supremacy and the systems that keep them in place. I am holding space for us to have open and honest dialogue that will hopefully inspire people to think differently and be part of the shift towards actual equality.
