When you stopped going to church, you didn’t just walk away from religion. You walked away from the community, from people who once called you “sister” and even “friend”. Being a Black woman without religion, without a religious home, aka a “church home,” can make you feel invisible—even in your own skin. Without that community that you were so accustomed to having, you can feel like you’ve lost relationships that were once a massive part of your life because of religion.
