Welcome to Unlikely Choices! I'm Stacy, the former lawyer turned jewelry designer, and I am so glad you're here! If you want to quit your job, change your career, or start your own business like I did, you've found the right place! In this week's episode, we're talking about money again, and how we are taught to prioritize it above all else when making career decisions. That's why people will tell you you're crazy if you quit your stable job to pursue a dream job! There are other things that matter, and it just takes some intentionality to identify them and prioritize them. But even if money were all that mattered, I bet - when you really stop to think about it - you don't need a million dollars to live your dream life. And I'll share a game you can play to really test this principle in your own life!

Welcome to Unlikely Choices! I'm Stacy, the former lawyer turned jewelry designer, and I am so glad you're here! If you want to quit your job and start your own business like I did, you've found the right place! In today's episode, I share three personality traits you need to be a successful business owner. I used to think anyone could start their own business if they just had the passion and the heart, but after eight years of small business ownership, I no longer feel that way. I think you need to be built a certain way or else the business ownership journey is not going to be a happy one for you. And that's ok! The goal is to have a realistic picture of small business ownership so that you can make an educated decision on whether it's the right path for you. And if it's not, that only means there is a better path out there for you. So tune in, get honest with yourself, and perhaps do a little journaling after the episode about the pros and cons of potential business ownership as it relates to you.

If you want to quit your job and start your own business like I did, but have no idea where to begin, you've found the right place! In today's episode, I am talking about failure. I have quite a bit of experience with this, as my first jewelry business actually failed after just one year and I had to go back to being a lawyer. Yep, that's right! The business I've been running for the past 8 years called grace + hudson jewelry is actually my second business. If failure is something that's holding you back from launching your own business or making a giant career change, I think you'll find the story I share in this episode very enlightening. I'll share the story of that first failed business and what happened after. I'll also share a couple of really important things I learned along the way.

We've identified all of those negative money beliefs and stories holding you back from pursuing your dream, starting your own business, or changing careers. Now, we've got to dismantle them and replace them with more positive money stories. I'll share some of the most popular money stories, and the ones I personally struggled with. Chances are you'll relate to quite a few! Together we'll dismantle them using logic, reason, and real life examples. We'll then replace them with more positive stories. Over time, this practice will alleviate the anxiety you have around money when it comes to pursuing your dream and help you move forward!

Welcome to Unlikely Choices! I'm Stacy, the former lawyer turned jewelry designer, and I am so glad you're here! In this episode, we're talking about money. Money is the number one block to starting your own business, pursuing a dream, or changing careers to do something more fulfilling. I went from a type-A, perfectionist lawyer to a more free-spirited jewelry business owner, so trust me when I tell you that money is one area I had to work on during my own journey!
First, we'll talk about the definition of wealth. I'll share my personal definition, and help you develop your own. It encompasses a lot more than money in the bank!
We'll also talk about your feelings, thoughts, and beliefs around money. Do you feel at ease with money? That money comes to you easily and always shows up when you need it? Or is money something you avoid because it's scary and always leads to an argument? We'll take a look at the things we picked up along the way from our family, as a lot of our beliefs around money stem from what we inadvertently learned about money growing up.
I'll then share why it is so important to work on money mindset before starting a business or making a big career change like I did. I'll share an exercise you can do to become more aware of the particular issues you have with money. These are likely the reasons that money is holding you back from pursuing that dream of changing careers or starting your own business! And then we'll pick up again next week on where we leave off -- we'll begin to dismantle those negative issues so you can be free of them.
The two books that can help you with this exercise are listed below. They can be found on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or at your favorite bookstore. Don't let the titles scare you off! These women talk about money in a funny, down-to-earth manner, and I think that takes some of the fear out of the topic. It helps to laugh and know that other people have the same thoughts about money as you do!

In this episode we're talking about something I call the "life checklist." I'll explain what that is and how I discovered it while working at a prestigious law firm in New York City. So many people unconsciously chase this checklist or some version of it, thinking that happiness will finally be waiting for them at the end of the list. But as we'll discuss, happiness is never found at the end of the list.
I'll share why this "life checklist" was a key foundational observation that stuck with me and ultimately contributed to me quitting my job as a lawyer to start my own jewelry brand. We'll also talk about why it's important to chart your own course and live intentionally if you want to eventually find true happiness in your career and in your life. I'll then send you off with a practical exercise so you can begin thinking about how the life checklist has impacted your own life and how you might want to do things differently going forward.
