At 17 years old, shortly after the 2008 financial crash, Elishuva spent their Occupy Wall Street years in the Maoist movement of the Austin, Texas area, where they spent much of their time in the protest scene. In 2013, Elishuva met a Chinese communist at their university who made them question their Maoism. In 2014, after graduating from college, Elishuva moved to China to teach Oral English. They spent the next five years living, teaching, traveling, and learning all across China. Since returning to the United States in 2019, Elishuva has been active in the Marxist-Leninist movement as well as the Communist Party USA (CPUSA).
