In episode 17 we attempt to unpack the complexity of gratitude through the lens of loss and trauma. We recall our earliest experience of gratitude as being that of a cultural etiquette, fostering a disconnect between how we are feeling and how we are expected to express ourselves. We reflect on the first time we truly felt grateful and explore the question of whether pain and suffering is a necessary prerequisite to this experience. We acknowledge how the duality of gratitude and suffering can be overwhelming, and invite our listeners to reframe gratitude as something that requires practice and vulnerability.
