A Public Affair

Unpacking the Crisis in Ukraine

Listen Later

For today’s show, we turn our attention to the war that has begun in Ukraine. Guest host Norm Stockwell spends the hour with political scientist Andrew Kydd discussing the historical and political context of Russia’s attacks this week.
They cover topics like the Cold War and the role of NATO, Chernobyl and nuclear power, U.S. involvement and the military-industrial complex, what we’re missing in the media coverage of this event, and more.
Andrew Kydd is a professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where his research focuses on international security issues. He is the author of Trust and Mistrust in International Relations (Princeton University Press, 2005).
For more, you can read Harvey Wasserman’s latest article in The Progressive, “Chernobyl 2.0: How Russia’s attack on Ukraine could release nuclear fallout across the globe.”
