More than 150,000 air conditioners were remotely powered down on the two hottest days of this year.
'PeakSmart' is a system that's designed to prevent blackouts by capping airconditioners at 50 per cent when the power demand is too high.
Australians signed up to the system are given a rebate of up to $400.
General Manager of MyPlace, Darren Bee, told Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Drive, "You know Australia is a first world country, last time I checked."
"That being so, we should have enough reliable, cheap power for a robust economy and bringing it back down to the consumer," Mr Bee said.
