In this deeply personal episode of Unscripted: Stories That Matter, Monica sits down with Kim Flanagan, a mother, wife, advocate, and member of the Family Support Services team, to talk about grief, survival, and what it means to keep moving forward after unimaginable loss.
In February 2024, Kim and her husband were shot by her son, Cody, who later died by suicide. Kim shares the complexity of grieving the son she loved while also processing the trauma of what happened that night. She opens up about the losses that came before and after, the role of faith and family in her healing, and why she has learned that strength sometimes means allowing yourself to admit that you are not okay. Today, Kim uses her own experiences to show up for others as an advocate at Family Support Services. Her story is a powerful reminder that what happens to us can become part of our story without becoming the entirety of who we are. Pasted markdown
Content Note: This episode includes conversations about family violence, gun violence, suicide, traumatic loss, and grief. Please listen with care.
