  • How a Stranger in an Elevator Saved My First Episode

Would love to hear your thoughts!

A year ago, I walked out of my very first recording at Gotham Production Studios in Manhattan completely defeated. I stumbled. I stuttered. I had to start over more times than I want to admit. Telling my own story, the one about leaving TV news, was harder than I ever expected.

Then I got on the elevator, and Dana Brewington turned to me and asked, "How'd it go?" That question cracked something open. We became friends that day. She was my Angel in the Elevator and I still call her "Godwink Dana" to this day.

Dana was my very first guest on Unscripted Turbulence, and now she's back to kick off Year Two. She was in news too, a former producer for Gayle King at CBS, before she left and built her own podcast, Minds of Renewal, centered on her relationship with God. I call it a God Pod.

In this episode, Dana flips the script and interviews me. We talk religion, spirituality, and the power of prayer, including a recent story that's still giving me chills. We check in on how far we've both come in a year.

This one is for anyone who's felt a little lost and needs some light.

  • We Made It! Celebrating One Year of Unscripted Turbulence Together

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Have you ever thrown a party just to say thank you?

Unscripted Turbulence turned ONE on August 1 - one year to the day it launched - and I couldn't let it pass without celebrating with the people who made it happen. So I hosted a livestream birthday party, my first ever Pod-iversary, and invited all of you: family and friends since birth, college pals from my Broadcast Journalism days, former colleagues (and bosses!), and podcast friends along the way. You showed up. We raised a glass.

I also introduced my August sponsor, Kastra Elion Vodka, the first premium vodka ever produced in Greece. A fan since 2024, I finally met the team in person this year, over martinis. Egharisto, truly.

This episode pulls the best moments from the Pod-iversary livestream on Saturday, August 1. Missed it live? Stick around, the full recording is at the end.

Thank you for one year of Unscripted Turbulence. We are just getting started.

  • I Burned the Ships | Here's What It Cost Me

Would love to hear your thoughts!

    "How's the pod?"

That question came up at a recent farewell party for a former colleague - and it cracked something open. So it's time to pull back the curtain on the part I've avoided talking about the most: MONEY.

How much I paid in startup fees. Whose money it was. The trigger that catches me off guard. And a response to a comment that got wedged under my skin about how I'm able to do what I'm doing financially.

It's uncomfortable. It's honest. And by the end, it's EMPOWERING.

I'm also revisiting two earlier conversations that still speak to me today: Lynn Mull, who left Wall Street to reinvent as a Holistic Career Coach and talks about financing your dream, and Sean Turi of Turi Productions - my headshot photographer, who captured the look of this podcast's cover - who taught me what it means to burn the ships and never look back.

If you've ever wondered what it actually costs - financially, emotionally - to walk away and build something of your own, this one's for you.

If you need that PUSH to start from Sean: Click here.

  • What They Don't Tell You About Career Changes

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Everyone talks about the leap. Nobody talks about the landing.

In this solo episode, I share the story of the literal and mental weight I've carried since my career pivot - leaving 20 years in TV news for a life where I'M the office, I'M the company. Hours chasing news turned into hours parked at a computer. It's not that I'm not active - I just have no reason to leave my apartment daily. The scale became my checkpoint, and the irony isn't lost on me: I left one job for its unhealthy hours, only to land in a new one with health concerns I never saw coming.

I bring in my current online fitness instructor and friend, Luisa Curia - plus a clip from her episode, so you can hear why I show up for her every day.

Then we go inward: the mental weight of reinvention, and the healing sounds - a sound bath guided by energy healer Mariana Gordon - that helps me manage it. Get comfortable. Let the sound heal.

  • My 2004 Note Resurfaced at Exactly the Right Moment | Here's What It Meant

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Have you ever gotten a sign so loud... you couldn't pretend you didn't hear it?

This solo episode starts as a tribute to my Medgie Militia - the listeners and friends who use words as weapons and had my back when a recent critique got under my skin. But then the signs started stacking up.

Last week, it was my old journals. This week? An email from an old colleague - with a note I wrote to her in 2004 attached. My own words, coming back to me... twice.

So I lean in. I revisit my conversation with Ryan Leckey, my former TV colleague who left to grow before I did - and the speech he mentioned that hits different now: "The Man in the Arena." Then I take you back to my FIRST guest, Dana Brewington - our Godwink of a meeting, our recent lunch, and her powerful words about why, when you're called to leave something... you must obey. Or listen.

Whether you call it God, the universe, or your gut - when it's time to move and you don't, the momentum doesn't wait for you.

This one moved me. I think it'll move you too.

  • Why I Walked Away From My Dream Job | 20 Years in TV News

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Why would anyone leave a dream job? The best local news station in the country, 20 years in - why walk away from THAT?

If you're not in the business, you're probably still asking why. If you are... you get it.

This July I'm going solo, opening up further than I did when I first shared why I left WABC back in August 2025. This time I dig into the messy middle - the theme is TIME. I reintroduce myself as your co-pilot for reinvention, walk through the whole journey in news, and open three journals - 2019, 2024, 2025 - where the same question kept showing up: what is worth my time, and am I spending it wisely?

For anyone in the middle of their own pivot.

    Lean into the turbulence.

  • What I Found in My November 2023 Journal

Would love to hear your thoughts!

It’s the first episode of summer - and the start of a new solo series on Unscripted Turbulence.

This week, it’s just you and me.

I kick things off with a shoutout to the Chief Swag Officer for an amazing custom mic windscreen, share why being under the weather may be the universe’s way of clearing out old energy, and pull back the curtain on PilotLife after summer storms left Pilot stranded in Fort Lauderdale during recording.

I also reveal my summer plans for the podcast, reflect on what the past three June episodes taught me, and read journal notes from November 2023 that prove just how powerful intention can be.

A personal episode. A seasonal reset. And a reminder that turbulence often leads us exactly where we’re meant to go.

  • He Lost His Parents Five Months Apart, Then This Happened

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Singer, actor, musician, director, and Johnny Cash tribute artist Scott Moreau joins me for a conversation that feels as much as it entertains.

We talk about his upbringing in Maine, his love of theater and classic music, and how an adult fascination with Johnny Cash eventually led him to portray the legendary singer on stages across the country.

    But this conversation goes deeper.

After losing both of his parents within five months of each other last year, Scott opens up about grief, healing, and the resources that helped him navigate unimaginable loss. Along the way, we discover that the themes of Johnny Cash's life—light and darkness, joy and struggle—mirror much of our own.

    And yes, Scott performs.

It's moving. I cry. And if you stay until the very end, there's an unscripted musical surprise after the official interview wraps.

This is a podcast you feel more than you hear.

  • What Becomes Possible When You Finally Let Go

Would love to hear your thoughts!

What if decluttering your home could change your life?

In this episode, I sit down with professional organizer and minimalist expert Melissa Welch to explore the powerful connection between our physical spaces and our emotional well-being.

Melissa shares how embracing her lifelong passion for organization led her to a more purposeful life—and how helping others simplify their homes often helps them reclaim their time, energy, and happiness.

We talk about clutter, guilt, sentimental items, and why letting go can be one of the most empowering things we do. This conversation goes far beyond organizing bins and storage solutions. It's about creating space for the life you actually want to live.

And in a surprisingly emotional moment, Melissa helps me realize it's finally time to let go of something I've been holding onto for years.

If you're ready to clear the clutter—in your home and your life—this episode is for you.

Melissa helps people declutter their homes, shop more intentionally, and take control of their money so they can build the life they truly want inside the Happy Home Community
