Do you have to break the bank to homeschool your kids? Well, maybe a little bit, but it’s worth it.

Let’s face it. If you want to have great kids who grow up to become great adults, it won’t come easy or cheap. Homeschooling has some costs to it; financial yes, but it also costs your time, courage, and some relational capital. Depending on the state of our governments, it may someday cost you even more.

There has been a lot of talk lately about church youth groups and whether they are actually a bad thing for the church. The current trend seems to be that youth groups create “peer dependency” and isolate the youth from the rest of the church. Some homeschoolers I know have chosen not to involve their kids in church youth groups.

Last weekend, I got to see many of my old friends from my youth group days. It was a joy to see them again and helped me realize what an impact that group has had on my life and on all of us. As a homeschooling parent, it’s tough to know whether church youth groups are always, or ever, a good thing for my homeschoolers. What do you think? Are youth groups a bad influence on homeschoolers?
