This episode is really one of the most unnerving, and I was a big fan of the whole conceit. This finale was a bit of a mixed bag. In some ways I was really happy and I got more than I even expected with Amy and Rory getting right back into the blue box at the end of the episode, which was lovely. This episode, the Doctor once again intends to bring our friends somewhere other than where they end up. As it happens, they are in our year, 2020, and there is some wild shit going on because of a drill that is attempting to get practically down to the core of the earth.
Amy gets pulled down to lord only knows where, and it looks like these things are just straight-up cutting human beings open, which is exactly what the Doctor does NOT want us to do to the member of the other species that the humans have already run into. Also, where's that little boy?

In this episode, Amy is finally put in a position that forces her to make a commitment to either leaving Rory for good, or deciding that he is who she wants to be with. Overall, the whole thing seems like it's a choice between the Doctor and Rory, but it's much more about Amy than it is about either of the men in her life.
There's also a mysterious baddie who has placed them in two different scenarios, and they have to figure out which one is real in order to resume their normal lives. But he's not at all what he seems to be, and neither are these scenarios.
