Derrick’s life work and mission are to challenge, inspire, educate, and mobilize communities and leaders to “Stand Up” and overcome adversity. In July 2017, Derrick suffered two major strokes; since these near-fatal strokes, Derrick has been on a miraculous journey of recovery while delivering a message of resiliency, toughness, courage, and sheer determination—to recover but share the message of hope that comes with near-death experiences. Derrick has written two books, Courage to Lead and Courage to Follow.

He is now writing a third book, The Rebound, based on his life experiences of life and death—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Jessica is an Aortic Dissection survivor. Jessica shares her story of life after the trauma. She is a wife, a mom, and a teacher; she shares her story to inspire others to keep going and spread hope.

An aortic dissection is very rare, and to be a survivor is almost unheard of. Jessica shares her struggles with PTSD and other mental illnesses after the event and is reaching out so that we can end the stigma around mental health as well.

Since Jessica cannot work, she has used writing as her creative outlet to help her heal. Jessica has written several books and has also become a life coach to help others.
