We recorded this after 2 years of the pandemic. Friends around the world were stuck at home, numb and depressed and not sure what to do with themselves. A tiny handful of people I knew were staying positive, myself and Ching Yi included and so we tried to share a little bit of those good vibes with our friends through this podcast episode.

I love having her on because she always asks great questions. The main topic we wanted to talk about was how we explore self love and self healing, but as usual, we float around these topics very liberally.

What’s considered normal varies from place to place. In some countries, it’s normal to have 1 kid, in others, it’s normal to have 33. In this episode I talk to Karina about polygamy in Nigeria and what it’s like having such a huge family. We also go into traditional medicine practices, many of which I misunderstand when I first hear them.

Vincent Nijman is a “failed filmmaker” and the mind behind Hypersensitivosaurus, a series of illustrated kids stories for adults. He and I go deep into our creative process and where our inspiration come from, how we interpret what others consider failures and how we keep growing and evolving as artists.

We go into how we both struggled with the balance between producing art non commercially and making a living, confidence or lack of confidence in the quality of our work, being understood or misunderstood and a lot of the struggles that so-called "struggling artists" face.

Talking with Javier about connecting with the city in a spiritual way, facing the shadow, and life as a mirror. Javier is from Venezula and is someone I often find insight from and share ideas with. He is a rune reader, artist, and perhaps even an urban shaman. Our conversation flows from the concept of urban shamanism and our respective locations in Venezuela and Japan (part 1), to our evolving relationship with animals and the spirituality of storytelling (part 2) and finally, shadow work (part 3).

We will do this again very soon. I love hearing Javier’s perspective. It resembles mine but with a lot more study of religious text and tradition, fictional narratives, and the occult.

AI and automation are the hot topic right now and while some people are excited, others are worried about losing their jobs and the potential dangers of this new technology.

I find myself worried about what I’m going to do if this technology makes it near-impossible to find a job and what kind of social implications that might have.

I’m trying my best to remain positive though, as the future is totally unknown, and while it’s totally possible that this artificial intelligence will lead to dystopia or total destruction it’s just as likely that it will reign in a new age of abundance where people are able to pursue their passions and do what they love.

This is how I’m navigating these feelings right now.

Chatbot gpt and dall-e made me realized just how quickly things are going to change, but I’m going to try to make the most of it.
