Dana Omari-Harrell is someone whose work I’ve admired for a long time, and I couldn’t wait to speak to her for this episode. We begin by discussing Dana’s work in the cosmetic space - interventions, beauty standards and honesty about procedures all get a look in! But the conversation moves swiftly into Dana’s position as a Palestinian American woman, and her choice to ‘come out’ publicly. What does it mean to fight for your people, and to have grown up in a culture that makes it clear you won’t be supported in doing so? Join me for this stark and galvanising discussion about courage, faith and resilience with the legendary Dana Omari-Harrell.

In the first of Untethered's Dear Clementine advice line, a listener on the cusp of turning 30 asks what advice I would give to my 30 year old self. This episode is a heartfelt reassurance that your 30s are a time of growth, self-discovery, and the chance to explore life's possibilities with a fresh perspective.
I also champion the cause of self-love and personal growth, challenging societal norms and embracing the journey towards the fullest version of ourselves. Let go of the fear of judgment and immerse yourself in life's simple joys, finding beauty in experiences over superficial achievements. Remember, the most enduring relationship you have is with yourself, and nurturing it is key to a fulfilling life.
Tune in to explore these themes and learn how you can continue to support and stay engaged with the podcast. Whether you're on the brink of 30 or reflecting on past decades, this conversation promises inspiration and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
New episodes of Dear Clementine are out every Monday! And don't forget my Friday Five, bringing you a guide to the top news stories of the week every Friday.

Let’s face it, we don’t always pay attention to the news. But just in case it comes up at pub trivia or knock off drinks with our friends, we still want to know what’s going on. Clementine's Friday Five provide's a quick cheat sheet of five of the week’s biggest news items, political gaffes or pop culture tidbits so YOU can bluff your way through whatever comes up.
It's smart, irreverent, quickfire and to the point - just like that friend who everyone always says should have gone into politics, if only she didn’t hate authority figures and rules.
This week, we're talking about western hypocrisy on Israel, the Australian government attempting to silence protesters, climate change and Hurricane Helene, an accident involving a cable car and the body horror movie, The Substance.
For the week ending October 6, 2024...this is the Friday Five with Clementine Ford.

This week, I’m joined by Samantha Ratnam, who resigned from her position as leader of the Victorian Greens to take on the increasingly precarious Labor seat of Wills in the forthcoming federal election. Samantha opens up about her journey as a woman of South Asian descent navigating the often rigid expectations of the political landscape. From her upbringing in Sri Lanka and England to her bold vision for substantive change, Samantha's story underscores the courage it takes to stay true to one's values amidst the pressures of incrementalism. As she campaigns for the federal seat of Wills, Samantha provides a deeply personal look into her motivations and the transformative power of bold leadership.
Our conversation also shifts to the evolving dynamics within Australian politics, particularly focusing on the complex relationship between the Australian Greens and the Labor Party. Highlighting the resignation of Fatima Payman over the Labor Party’s stance on Gaza, we discuss the critical need for genuine representation and the courage to voice diverse perspectives. Samantha and I touch on the significant yet often overlooked impact of younger generations, especially teenage girls, whose insights are crucial in shaping a more inclusive political future. This chapter shines a light on the importance of empowering these voices to foster a political environment that embraces true diversity.
Growing up as an identical twin and an immigrant in Australia adds another layer to Samantha’s unique perspective. We dive into the challenges of identity and belonging, from navigating the awkward teenage years to the influence of global events like the Sri Lankan civil war. Samantha shares poignant reflections on the twin experience, from the complexities of comparison to the broader themes of self-worth and individuality. This episode is a rich exploration of how personal identity intertwines with community activism, culminating in a powerful narrative about the interconnectedness of our paths and the collective wisdom necessary for meaningful change.

World 'leaders' join forces to call on Israel to commit to a paltry 21 day ceasefire against Lebanon, and of course Israel refuses; Chappell Roan is hounded for having political integrity by the same people who can't bring themselves to demand it from their presidential candidate; Bisan Owda wins an Emmy for outstanding reporting for 'It's Bisan from Gaza and I'm still alive', despite a pathetic campaign from Zionists to have her nomination rescinded; the Ladies Lounge at MONA's successfully overturns a tribunal decision to render it discriminatory towards men; and a second moon is set to join Earth's orbit on Sunday!
For the week ending September 30, 2024....this is the Friday Five with Clementine Ford.
PS I am sorry that the sound on this episode is not great! I don't know what went wrong, but it'll be fixed for next week.

This week, I’m joined by one of my favourite people - a woman with one of the biggest hearts you’ll ever find. Nadine Chemali is a feminist organiser, thrill seeker and all-round excellent human. We had a beautiful conversation about community building, the importance of support networks and how to mobilise collective action, as well as what it means to navigate the grief and loss of a much-loved parent.
Through Nadine's personal stories of growing up in a Lebanese family, we highlight the unifying power of food, culture, and love. This segment underscores the transformative potential of cross-cultural solidarity in amplifying marginalised voices and dismantling systemic racism. From navigating friendships and personal growth to the lessons of motherhood and self-discovery, Nadine's narrative weaves a powerful tapestry of love, community, and resilience. Tune in to discover how these themes shape our lives and offer pathways for resistance and survival in challenging times.

This week, I’m joined by my own personal icon and legendary trailblazer, Shirley Manson, front woman of 90s rock band Garbage.
We discuss teenage rebellion, sexism in the music industry, the patriarchal systems that shape our world and the history of witches in Scotland. We also delve into the cultural landscape of the 90s, celebrating the nonconformity of British women in music and Shirley's own journey of self-acceptance and authenticity, and how different the possibilities for growth were for women in our mothers’ generation.
From navigating body image and aging to the joy of life's simple pleasures, Shirley's candid reflections offer a refreshing perspective on personal growth and resilience. We discuss the importance of kindness and connection in healing a fractured society, the challenges of political divides, and the global crises that shape our times. Whether it's planning future travels, indulging in pastries, or cherishing the memory of a lost pet, this episode is a heartfelt celebration of a life lived fully and fearlessly.

It's been a few weeks since I recorded an episode. Because what is there to say?
Today's episode is a rumination on hopelessness and the responsibility we have to resist it. I consider the deep soul wound of watching a genocide play out and be ignored by anyone with the power to stop it. But I also ask listeners feeling similarly despondent to consider those who've come before us. All the revolutions in the world's history, fought by people who felt helpless at various points. I then consider those who come after us, learning from this moment in time.
Ultimately, I hope I've provided some kind of solace and also encouragement here to hold our nerve and find the humanity in fighting back.
Audio footage opening and closing the episode recorded at the rally in Naarm on Monday May 27.

Welcome to Untethered Advice, a new format for the Untethered pod! In today’s episode, a listener asks if monogamy is responsible in part for men’s violence against women, because of its emphasis on ownership.
I answer this the best way I know how - by looking at the broader picture of where the SYSTEM of male violence learns its tactics from. And yes, I talk about Palestine and imperial violence.
This is a challenge to western feminists who want to focus solely on domestic homicide in Australia while ignoring the genocide in Palestine. These two thinks are interconnected, and we cannot fix domestic violence without understanding and dismantling our complicity in imperial violence.
