This episode is with Aqueelah Tillman, a recent graduate of Georgetown’s Midwifery and Women’s Health Practitioner Program. She has degrees from UC Riverside and Drexel University, and she is a community health advocate for BIPOC women and specifically for individuals in the birthing and lactation space. While she is dedicated to highlighting and diminishing inequities in maternal health, in this conversation, we gain a little insight about where it all started. We often wonder what the real determining factors are that can help drive people to success,  and Aqueelah shares with us how through one of the most tragic times in her life, it became clear that success was more than just hard work, but love in action. Her father’s commitment to let her know that she was seen and heard.

Continuing in our "Love is..." Series, this week we are talking about identity. The Apostle John, in his Gospel account, chose to identify himself as the “disciple whom Jesus loved.” This decision by John really begs the question of how all of us identify. Are we so caught up in social constructs of value and worth that we mistakenly put our entire identity in the temporal ideas of possessions, relationships, and/ or status? If we really knew we were loved by God, so much so that we made that love our identity, how would that change how we lived our everyday lives?

This episode is with Krys Grant-Ray, a single mother, a community leader and a Kingdom-builder. She is a certified life coach, trained chaplain, and works full time as a relationship specialist at the Hollywood Food Coalition. In this powerful and honest conversation Krys shares about her radical view of love developed through trials of childhood trauma, mental health, and a broken marriage. She shares how, through it all,  it was as if the Lord was preparing her for where she is now… facing the very real battle of  stage 5 metastasized breast cancer. In Feb 2021 she was given 6 months to live with a maximum life expectancy of 2 years. Nevertheless, Krys presses on leaning into her commitment to leave a legacy of love! Her tremendous love for God and for people will inspire even the most downcast of souls.
