The impact of artificial intelligence is evidenced across sectors; media and creative industries is one area where AI will have a significant disruption. In honor of World Water Day, Professor Payyazhi Jayashree, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Vice President of Water for People, India Trust, and Dr Hazem Gouda, Associate Professor of Engineering and Information Sciences at UOWD, discussed the importance of ensuring fair water resource distribution and efficient management on Talk100.3 FM. 

The UAE has made significant progress in this area, with the launch of the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, aimed at reducing water resource demand by 21% and increasing national water storage capacity. The conversation also emphasized the role of academia in sustainable water management, including groundwater management and equitable water source distribution, aligning with the UN SDG 6 for Clean Water and Sanitation for All.

Dr May El Barachi, Director of Computer Science and Information Systems and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering & Information Sciences, delves into the future of ChatGPT and highlights what the shift to digital transformation will mean for industries most impacted by it. In conversation with @Talk100.3 FM, Dr May recently highlighted the role of digital transformation and ChatGPT in upskilling the new generation and serving as a catalyst for students pursuing tech-related disciplines.

Dr Khan discussed the importance of developing an understanding of what the tool really is and what it is capable of, and how it might be incorporated into classrooms as a future-focused tool and where it cannot. Touching upon the bigger issue of essay mills and contract cheating, Dr Khan spoke to the importance of recognising that academic misconduct is a reality of academia that needs a holistic approach to develop a culture of integrity in order to instill integrity values in students, the need and understanding of why students should be learning and how the onus is not only on students, but also the institution and the faculty to uphold integrity. Dr Khan concluded discussing how universities that had made systemic changes to include academic integrity as part of their policy, discussions and practice were successful in managing misconducts during the pandemic, rather than those who hadn't.
