Terrie Banish joins Adam in the SLO CAL Studios to talk about one of Atascadero’s most entertaining nights of the year, Brew at the Zoo at the Central Coast Zoo. It is a 21-and-over evening built around more than 20 breweries, wineries, cider makers and other pouring partners, with food, live music, contests, and the rare opportunity to wander the zoo after hours with a tasting glass in hand.

Tears for Fears founding member Roland Orzabal joins Adam Montiel on Up+Adam for a conversation that goes far beyond the hits. His new memoir, Welcome to Your Life: Love, Death, and Tears for Fears, looks back on a life shaped by fame, friendship, grief, ambition, creativity, astrology, and the long road toward understanding yourself. UB40 founding drummer Jimmy Brown joins Adam Montiel for a wide-ranging conversation about nearly five decades of music, friendship, politics, and the strange art of knowing when not to play.

Jimmy talks about why reggae drumming is harder than it looks, how slowing down can be more demanding than speeding up, and why that lesson applies far beyond music. He reflects on UB40’s working-class Birmingham beginnings, the band’s political roots, and how a group of friends who had barely been playing six months suddenly found themselves in the spotlight. He also opens up about “Red Red Wine,” why UB40 never knew it was originally a Neil Diamond song until they went to record it, and how one massive hit can sometimes overshadow the hundreds of songs that came before and after it.

Maestro Andrew Sewell is back Up+Adam, and this conversation arrives at one of those fascinating moments when celebration and transition are happening at exactly the same time.

Andrew joins Adam ahead of Pops by the Sea: Symphony Remix, the SLO Symphony’s end-of-summer celebration at Avila Beach Golf Resort featuring local powerhouse horn band Brass Mash. They get into what happens when a full symphony collides with the music of The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Cranberries and more, including some seriously clever mashups that turn the concert into a little bit of a live “name that tune.” Andrew also explains why a song like “A Whiter Shade of Pale” may have more classical DNA in it than you ever realized, and what it takes to make an outdoor symphony concert work when the ocean, weather, amplification and acoustic instruments all become part of the equation.

But there is a much bigger conversation underneath the music. Andrew recently announced that he plans to step down as Music Director of the San Luis Obispo Symphony following the 2027-28 season, completing an 11-year tenure. He opens up about why he chose to give the organization two years to thoughtfully prepare for its next leader, how becoming a grandfather has shifted some of his priorities, and why loving the music does not necessarily mean holding onto the position forever.

Adam and Andrew also talk about what San Luis Obispo has taught him, the extraordinary philanthropic spirit of the Central Coast, the 46 musicians he has hired during his tenure, and the importance of putting instruments into the hands of young people. Andrew traces some of that passion back to being eight years old and attending the symphony concert that made him want to learn every instrument in the orchestra.

And then there is this little revelation: Andrew says actual conducting is only about five percent of what a Music Director does. The rest is programming, rehearsals, organizational leadership, development, community building and figuring out how to turn dozens of extraordinary individual musicians into one unified musical voice.

Of course, Adam and Andrew also revisit their previous adventure together, when Maestro Sewell put a baton in Adam’s hand and attempted to teach him how to conduct. Somehow, both men survived.

It is a conversation about music, leadership, community, knowing when to make room for what comes next, and why the SLO Symphony continues finding new ways to invite people into an art form they may not even realize they already love.

There are certain local stories we love on Up+Adam, especially when entrepreneurship, family, and a little bit of “how did you even think of this?” all collide. Paso Robles father-daughter team Terry and Stella Gidcumb join Adam to talk about MVPee Portable Luxury Restrooms, a homegrown business bringing a seriously upgraded restroom experience to wineries, weddings, festivals, private parties, corporate events, and gatherings throughout the Central Coast.

The idea started with Terry, a longtime local welder whose years of working with wineries and building relationships around Paso helped him recognize an opportunity hiding in plain sight. Then Stella entered the picture. At just 21, still in college and beginning to figure out who she is beyond the athletic identity that defined so much of her younger life, she brought a completely different set of instincts to the company, especially in branding, marketing, social media, and understanding how her generation connects with a business. Together, Terry brings the experience, the local relationships, the hands-on work, and the original vision, while Stella is helping shape what the next version of MVPee can become.

Adam gets into the story behind MVPee, from Terry spotting the opportunity through local events, to Stella initially wondering whether her dad was seriously getting into the bathroom business, to both of them discovering just how much hospitality can live in the smallest details. Climate control, running water, mirrors, music, lighting, freshen-up stations, and a setup designed to feel much closer to walking into a nice indoor restroom than stepping into a typical portable toilet.

But the best part of the conversation is bigger than bathrooms. It is about a young woman discovering what comes after the thing that once defined her, a dad learning when to coach and when to trust his daughter as a business partner, and what can happen when two generations bring completely different strengths to the same idea. It is local entrepreneurship, Paso relationships, family, hustle, and one seriously clever name.

James “Murr” Murray is back on Up+Adam, and this time he’s trading hidden-camera chaos for something with a few more legs.

Murr joins Adam to talk about Don’t Move, the new horror-thriller he co-wrote and produced, where a church group wanders deep into the wilderness and discovers they are being hunted by a massive prehistoric arachnid that tracks its prey through vibration. In other words, running might be the worst thing you can do.

The conversation gets into a connection Murr knows better than most: comedy and horror both live and die by timing. After years of Impractical Jokers, he has learned exactly how long tension can build before it needs a release, whether that release is a laugh or a scream. Murr also reveals one of the craziest Jokers punishments yet, involving the outside of the Empire State Building and, somehow, turning himself into a human mop.

Adam and Murr also get into what makes Don’t Move different from a typical creature feature, why Murr loves horror characters who actually make smart decisions, whether he himself could survive the movie, and the moment Writer Murr collided with Producer Murr when the original opening proved too expensive to put on screen. His solution may have made the movie even more terrifying.

And if you go see Don’t Move in theaters this September, keep an eye on the aisle. Murr says he plans to travel around the country surprising audiences at screenings as his way of personally thanking people for showing up.

This episode of Up+Adam lands in Hartford, Maine, at Bonaventura Vineyards, but the conversation quickly becomes about much more than wine. Adam sits down with Chad Casey and Jen Bonaventura to talk about the property they bought in 2015, the vines they planted themselves, the 1890s barn they cleaned out and later used for their own wedding, and the strange twist that came years later when they learned Hartford was still technically a dry town.

What followed was part farming story, part small-town civics lesson, part marriage-and-business adventure. Chad and Jen had to explain their vision to the community, put alcohol sales to a town vote, and ultimately earn overwhelming support to move forward. Along the way, the conversation gets into the realities of growing grapes in Maine, from humidity and mildew to robins with an eye on the Marquette, plus the challenge of making wine in a climate that does not always cooperate.

There is also a lot here about place. Bonaventura Vineyards sits above Little Bear Pond on a property that has become part vineyard, part gathering place, part event venue, and part home base for a dream that has taken years to build. Jen shares how the barn evolved almost organically into a wedding and event space, while Chad talks about learning his way through cold-climate grape growing and winemaking one season at a time.

UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping joins Adam Montiel on Up+Adam for a conversation that starts in Chuck Liddell country and goes somewhere much deeper. Bisping looks back at making his UFC debut on the legendary UFC 66 card with Chuck, admits that yes, there was absolutely a part of him that wanted to know what would happen if the two of them ever got locked in a cage together, and reflects on the generation of fighters who helped take MMA from the fringe into the mainstream. From there, Michael gets remarkably candid about the chapter that almost ended everything: losing vision in one eye, hiding it from the sport, living with the constant fear of being discovered, and somehow going on to become the first British fighter to win a UFC Championship. He tells Adam that the stress surrounding the secret became so enormous that getting into the Octagon was, comparatively, “the easy part.”

But this conversation is also about what happens after you become the guy you spent your whole life trying to become. Michael talks about the physical price he still pays for his fighting career, the self-doubt and imposter syndrome that followed him from the UFC into Hollywood, mentoring the next generation of fighters as “Uncle Mike,” and why he can look back at the wild confidence of his younger self and barely recognize the guy. Then we get into his first leading film role, Atlas King, opposite Cuba Gooding Jr. Bisping explains why he and his partners formed their own production company rather than allow the movie to be watered down, how his real fighting experience shaped its brutal, realistic action sequences, and why he wants audiences to understand this is more than another MMA movie. It is a heist story, a revenge story, and, underneath the violence, a story with heart.
