KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Maj-Gen Lesetja Senona says he forwarded the PKTT disbandment letter to Vusi Muzi Matlala on his own, simply sharing viral social media information that had caught his attention. KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Lesetja Senona is today testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria. He is accused of having strong ties to alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

The Nkabinde Inquiry into suspended Gauteng DPP Andrew Chauke's fitness to hold office resumed today in Pretoria. Evidence leader Senior Counsel Themba Skosana warns that if Advocate Batohi gets her legal counsel but still won't testify at the inquiry, evidence leaders may need to use subpoena powers to compel her continuation. The outgoing NDPP had excused herself last month after a heated cross-examination.

A 37-year-old man has appeared in Bellville magistrate court in Cape Town on charges of trafficking in persons and rape. Police say the suspect allegedly lured a 15-year-old girl who is a foreign national to South Africa under the pretense of studying before forcing her into marriage. NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says the girl was repeatedly raped and assaulted over seven months while she was trapped in the forced marriage. The matter has been postponed to 2 February for a bail application and an Amharic interpreter. NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila explains

More than sixty vehicles were impounded for overloading and unroadworthiness in a blitz that began yesterday. The crackdown follows a joint operation in Lenasia, coming just days after fourteen learners tragically died in a scholar transport crash. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana says the resolutions and decisions contained in the G20 Johannesburg declarations extend beyond South Africa's presidency. Severe flooding has affected over 600-thousand people in southern Mozambique, triggering new displacement. More than 100 people have died in what could be Mozambique's worst floods in decades. The pre-sentencing proceedings for EFF leader Julius Malema are underway at a packed East London regional court. Judge Twanette Olivier is expected to preside over pre-sentencing proceedings as scores of EFF supporters are gathered outside the court showing support for their leader. Malema has been convicted of discharging a firearm during the party's fifth anniversary celebrations held in Mdantsane back in 2018. His conviction includes the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area and reckless endangerment.
