A 36-year-old man is expected to appear before the Mahwelereng magistrate's court, in Limpopo, after he was arrested for allegedly raping his four-year-old niece. Limpopo police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says the man allegedly raped his niece when the child's mother left her in his care at their home in Malepetleke village on Friday. The University of KwaZulu-Natal, in partnership with the KZN Premier's Office, are briefing the media on the latest HIV cure research. Led by Professor Thumbi Ndungu, this groundbreaking trial Africa's first shows 20% of participants remain off antiretroviral therapy and are still virally suppressed after 18 months. The trial tested combination immunotherapy, boosting the immune system to control HIV without lifelong medication. Scientists say these findings could revolutionize future HIV treatments. Presented at a major U.S. conference, this research puts Africa at the forefront of global HIV cure efforts. The application to disclose the investigation diary in the former National Assembly Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula corruption case has been dismissed. Presiding Judge Mokhine Mosopa said that Mapisa-Nqakula failed to prove her case in the Pretoria High Court. Mapisa-Nqakula's defense lawyers argued that the disclosure of section C of the docket could lead to her exoneration from the corruption case.  She is facing 12 charges of corruption and one of money laundering during her tenure as Defense Minister. The Human Settlements minister, Thembi Simelane, says several system failures led to the collapsed building in George in May last year. The collapse, that took place during construction, caused 34 deaths and dozens of injuries. Briefing Parliament's Human Settlements committee on the report that followed an investigation, Simelane says an almost 300 page report details several lapses in the construction process...

The uMkhonto we Sizwe Party has snatched from the African National Congress, ward 28 in KwaDukuza, in KwaZulu-Natal's iLembe District Municipality. The ward became vacant when Vishnugopal Govender resigned as ANC ward councilor, and contested the by-election as an MK Party candidate. He received 62 per cent of the votes. Candidates from the ANC, Inkatha Freedom Party, Economic Freedom Fighters and the MK Party contested the ward. ActionSA caucus leader, Athol Trollip, says the party will not support the African National Congress if their input continues not to yield fruit. Speaking to members of the media, earlier today, Trollip emphasised that the party is resolute in its resistance of a VAT increase or tax bracket creep in the 2025 budget. This after the National Assembly's adoption of the  Fiscal Framework yesterday. The was adopted with recommendations - made by ActionSA - that Treasury must be given 30 days to come up with alternatives to tax hikes. The Eastern Cape High Court, sitting in Gqeberha, has found Nigerian televangelist, Timothy Omotoso and his co-accused, not guilty on all charges against them. The court dismissed the state's case against Omotoso, Lusanda Sulani and Zikiswa Sitho, following a trial spanning over 8 years. The accused faced 32 charges including rape, human trafficking and racketeering, after Omotoso was arrested at the Chief Dawid Stuurman airport in 2018 on rape and other charges. Eleven people, eight of who are employees of the South African Social Security Agency, are expected to apply for bail in the Lenasia Magistrate's Court, in Johannesburg. The accused were arrested after being implicated in a 260-million-rand fraud syndicate operating within the social security. The state alleges that the accused created fake profiles and used these to withdraw funds from SASSA pay points. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Pearl Magubane.
