About 150 miners are reported to be trapped inside an abandoned mine in Sabie. Six of the miners are out and three are reportedly dead. Namibia has elected its first female leader, with Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah declared the winner of last week's presidential election.  The 72-year-old Nandi-Ndaitwah won with 57% of the vote, according to official results, defying predictions that she might be forced into a runoff.  Opposition parties have rejected the results after last Wednesday's election was marred by technical problems, including shortages of ballot papers and other issues, causing election officials to extend voting until Saturday. A number of first-time voters are among those casting their votes in today's by-elections at the Thabazimbi Local Municipality, in Limpopo. More than 51-thousand registered voters are due to cast their votes at 57 voting stations, after 12 wards were left vacant when  Premier Phophi Ramathuba dissolved in October. Ramathuba's decision came after years of political instability. Among the first-time voters if eighteen-year-old, Anna Kganaga, who cast her vote at Krausa primary school, in ward 7. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Busisiwe Memela-Khambula has been suspended. The Minister of Social Development, Nokuzola Tolashe announced a precautionary suspension for her suspension on full pay. This pending the outcome of the investigation into her appointment. Minister Tolashe says the precautionary suspension is prompted by the need to conduct investigation without hindrance or interference given Memela-Khambula's position as CEO of SASSA. US President-elect, Donald Trump is sending a political message to BRICS countries that he's not simply going to accept the current situation. That's the view of Chris Opperman – the Operating Partner at Washington-based C5 Capital and a specialist in investment facilitation, diplomacy and international relations in Africa and the Middle East. At the weekend, Trump threatened 100% tariffs against BRICS nations if they sought to undermine the U.S. dollar in global trade. Trump said that the United States required commitment from BRICS nations that they would neither create a new BRICS Currency or back another currency to replace the U.S. Dollar in international trade. The National prosecuting Authority in Gauteng, says it is confident that it has a watertight case against the man accused of raping and murdering a six-year-old girl, in Orlando, Soweto. Mozambican national, Pethe Simiao, appeared briefly at the Protea Magistrates' Court on this morning, where his case was postponed to the 27th of January 2025. Land Reform and Rural Development Minister, Mzwanele Nhyontso, says the high cost of land continues to be one of the stumbling blocks to the pace of land restitution. The Commission on Restitution of Land Rights reflected on 30 years of the Restitution of Land Rights Act at the Freedom Park Heritage Site in Pretoria on Monday (*2/12*). President Cyril Ramaphosa, has outlined South Africa's priorities in the course of its presidency of the G20 under the theme   'Fostering solidarity, equality, and sustainable development'. The G20 plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. South Africa has assumed presidency of the G20, taking from Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Ramaphosa said that South Africa's presidency of G20- will focus on issues including climate change and the global geo- political conflicts, addressing poverty, unemployment as well as Africa's development.  

The SA economy took a step back in the third quarter, with GDP shrinking by 0.3% from July to September. The agriculture sector led the decline, while transport, trade, and government services also contributed to the slowdown. Parliament's Trade, Industry and Competition Committee wants commercial banks to appear before it early next year, to iron out various issues. That's according to the chairperson of the committee, Mzwandile Masina. He spoke to the media during a briefing of the chairpersons of Parliament's economic cluster, which consists of among others Transport, Trade, Industry and Competition, Agriculture and Minerals and Petroleum Resources.
