Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is leading a high-level South African delegation to China this week to attract investment in electricity infrastructure and new generation projects. The visit follows Cabinet's approval of key electricity market reforms and comes as government begins implementing the Integrated Resource Plan 2025. South Africa's transmission expansion programme is expected to require more than R2.2 trillion in investment, with discussions focusing on financing and strategic partnerships. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter Katlego Legodi 

The Western Cape High Court is today hearing the DA's constitutional challenge to the Expropriation Act. The party wants the law declared unconstitutional and invalid, arguing that the process leading to its adoption was flawed and that it infringes on constitutionally protected property rights. President Cyril Ramaphosa signed, the Expropriation Act in January 2025.  DA MP Ashor Sarupen says the party is in court to protect the property rights of all South Africans and opposes what it describes as legislation that legalises land grabs. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced adjustments  to fuel prices that will take effect on Wednesday. Petrol will decrease by 52 cents a litre, while diesel will increase by between one-rand-23 and one-rand-38 cents a litre. Illuminating paraffin will rise by two-point-three cents a litre, while the maximum retail price of LP Gas will decrease. The department spokesperson, Robert Maake says lower crude oil prices has led to the reduction in petrol costs, but diesel prices have increased due to supply shortages linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. It's official, Hugo Broos will not continue as BafanaBafana coach. The 74-year-old Belgian who has been at the helm of the South African football team for the last five years, made the announcement in Johannesburg today on the day his contract with the South African Football Association ends.
Broos says being away from his family for long periods of time, is the only reason he has not agreed to have his contract extended. SAfm sports anchor has more Jon Gericke.

Former Justice Minister Jeff Radebe has told the TRC Cases Inquiry that his constitutional responsibility over the National Prosecuting Authority never included directing prosecutors on who should or should not be prosecuted. Radebe says his role was limited to requesting information to understand developments and ensure the law was being followed. He cited the prosecution of former ANC Northern Cape chairperson John Block as an example, saying he sought a report from then National Director of Public Prosecutions Menzi Simelane and supported the prosecution after being satisfied it was lawful.

: IDAC Senior Investigator Mantsha Raphesu has told the Madlanga Commission that investigator Sunil Belucham allegedly sought to lead the Fadiel Adams referral despite not being the designated investigator. Raphesu says he became concerned after noticing signs that some investigators had prior knowledge of the case before it was officially allocated. He also testified that senior investigator Brian Padayachee and a chief investigator allegedly met the complainant before the investigation was formally authorised. The commission is continuing to hear more testimony from IDAC officials today after weeks of explosive evidence about alleged failures and irregularities within the unit.

President Ramaphosa has endorsed the Phase I report of the Eskom Restructuring Task Team (ERTT), setting the stage to restructure South Africa's electricity sector to create competition, unlock investment, reduce electricity prices and ensure energy security for sustained economic growth and job creation. The report sets out recommendations for establishing an independent Transmission System Operator separate from Eskom. More than half of South African workers are turning to sports betting and online gambling to cover monthly expenses and repay debt, according to Old Mutual's Savings and Investments Monitor 2026. The study found 53% of workers are betting, with 42% doing so frequently. Old Mutual warns the trend is eroding household savings, deepening debt and exposing financially vulnerable families to greater financial risk. The South African Weather Service says snow has returned to parts of the country as a bitter cold spell continues ahead of the weekend. Snowfall has been reported in the Eastern Cape, parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State along the Lesotho border. Motorists are urged to exercise caution on icy roads. The weather service has also warned of damaging winds and rough seas along the KwaZulu-Natal coast, with cool, partly cloudy conditions expected in Gauteng.
