The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says it recorded more than 2500 criminal cases against police in the financial year 2025/26. The Police watchdog, briefed Parliament's Police Portfolio Committee on its annual report. It says some of the offences conducted by police include assault, and the discharge of a fire arm. The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration says government will approach the courts for a supervisory order to help implement a Constitutional Court ruling on asylum seekers. Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi says the move would allow courts to oversee the process, while giving Home Affairs time to strengthen its administrative and processing capacity. Government insists the application to the courts is aimed at ensuring orderly and sustainable compliance with the Concourt ruling. Ditaba Tsotetsi reports....

The Department of Home Affairs has withdrawn a directive they issued on 28 September that expanded the intake of asylum seeker applications following a Constitutional Court ruling. This directive was an operational decision taken by the Home Affairs Director-General's office without the knowledge or involvement of the Minister or any political office-bearers. Former UN human rights chief Navanethem "Navi" Pillay, a judge on the International Court of Justice, has won the Nobel Peace Prize today in Oslo, Norway. The South Africa-born Pillay, 85 years old, was recognised for her efforts to promote peace and international law. The chairperson of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, says this year's laureate has been instrumental in ensuring that war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide are prosecuted. Home Affairs Minister- Dr Leon Schreiber says South Africa's asylum system remains highly restrictive, with the department rejecting approximately 95% of asylum applications after assessing them on their merits. Schreiber says access to the refugee application process does not guarantee asylum status, despite public concerns following a Constitutional Court ruling.
