The Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says Eskom has achieved of 70.78% energy availability factor (EAF). The  minister described the achievement as a milestone that was last attained in August of 2021. The country has seen 47 days without load shedding and Ramokgopa says this is as a result of consistent performance.

The National Department of Health has urged the public to take extra precautionary measures to protect themselves and their loved ones against respiratory infections, which are expected to increase over the winter season. According to the department, the respiratory syncytial virus is currently at peak circulation in the country, while influenza also known as flu is starting to surge.  Meanwhile, COVID-19 continues to circulate at low levels. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), which monitors the circulation of respiratory viruses throughout the country, has notified the department that it is currently the peak season of RSV, which some can confuse for COVID-19 due to common symptoms. The murder trial of former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa has once again been delayed by a further postponement to Wednesday by the Pretoria High Court. This after the trial was postponed two weeks ago due to evidence related to the cellphone communication between all the accused dating back to 2018. The state introduced new evidence as court proceedings were due to get underway. The defence accused the state of engaging in a trial by ambush. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to SABC reporter, Pearl Magubane.

Slain 5-year-old Ditebogo Junior Phalane already had his future planned out for him despite his tender age. He wanted to be a lawyer to deal with criminals and fight crime. Unfortunately, that dream was cut short by ruthless criminals who fatally wounded the preschooler on Friday night during a hijacking incident outside his family home in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria. The number of deceased people from the George collapsed building has now risen to 24. 28 people remain unaccounted for while 13 are still in hospital.  It has been a week since the multistorey building under construction imploded. 81 people were on site when the building collapsed last Monday. Rescue operations continue while the identification of the deceased remains a priority in order to provide closure for the families. Family and friends of the workers who were trapped when a building under construction collapsed at George in the Western Cape say they need more clarity about their loved ones. They say they have not been informed whether they are still trapped, deceased, or in hospital. The number of those who were on-site during the collapse on Monday was revised from 75 to 81, with 44 people still unaccounted for and eight confirmed deceased. Israeli forces bombarded areas of Rafah on Thursday, Palestinian residents said, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed U.S. President Joe Biden's threat to withhold weapons from Israel if it assaults the southern Gaza city. A senior Israeli official said late on Thursday that the latest round of indirect negotiations in Cairo to halt hostilities in Gaza had ended and Israel would proceed with its operation in Rafah and other parts of the Gaza Strip as planned. The inquest trial against Enyobeni tavern owners Vuyokazi and Siyakhangela Ndevu commences today at the Mdantsane Magistrates Court. The matter was postponed last month when the accused's legal team said the state did not inform her clients on time about the court dates. The Constitutional Court has ruled that the Labour Party together with Ace Magashule's African Congress for Transformation and the Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats will not be on the ballot paper for the upcoming national and provincial elections. The court made the brief order earlier, opening the pathway to May 29th remaining the official voting day. The three parties sought to delay the elections.
