MEC for Community Safety in the North West, Sello Lehari has engaged the community of Popo Molefe informal settlement after 9 people were killed in ongoing tensions between two groups over the alleged theft of stock. Lehari visited the families of the nine people killed at Popo Molefe informal settlement in Boitekong outside Rustenburg. The MEC is accompanied by the senior management of the department and the South African Police Service in the province.  For more we're joined on the line by the MEC's spokesperson Lucas Mothibedi 

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has condemned Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan's refusal to hand over documents relating to the sale of South African Airways to Parliament. Numsa notes that the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises has unanimously agreed that it cannot provide unqualified support for the transaction for SAA to be sold to the Takatso Consortium.  Last week, SAA tabled four years of annual financial statements in Parliament, which showed four years of financial losses and four disclaimed audit opinions.  SABC reporter, Naledi Ngcobo has more.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) says it is currently in negotiations with management of Impala Bafokeng Platinum Mine, in Rustenburg, in an attempt to resolve the striking workers issues. Operations at the mine have been brought to a standstill as more than 2000 workers stage an underground sit-in protest. The workers are frustrated over a number of issues including employee share schemes and pension funds after the mine was bought by Impala. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to NUM regional secretary, Geoffrey Moatshe.

Twelve of the more than 2000 mineworkers who've embarked on an underground sit-in at Impala Bafokeng Platinum mine in Rusternburg in the North West - have resurfaced due to them having chronic medical conditions. The sit-in protest which began yesterday has since brought operations at the mine to a standstill. The workers are frustrated over a number of issues including employee share schemes and pension funds after the mine was bought by Impala. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Hasina Gori.

The OR Tambo District Chamber of Business is calling for a joint effort between business and government in the Eastern Cape, to craft a strategy to ensure there are more police deployed to secure businesses in the area. This as some businesses in Mthatha are closing down because of syndicates alleged to be demanding protection fees from all businesses of foreign origin. As a result, a number of filling stations have closed their doors. Five men accused of beating and burning to death seven people in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg are expected to apply for bail today in the Randburg Magistrate's Court. The accused face five counts of murder and attempted murder, assault, kidnapping and malicious damage to property. One of the accused is facing a further charge of contravening the Immigration Act. The seven people were killed in an alleged mob attack incident earlier this month. During a previous court appearance the spouse of one of the accused - who wished to remain anonymous - expressed her disappointment at the postponement of the matter 

The Alexandra Magistrates Court in Johannesburg has heard that 21-year-old student Bafana Mahungela was not informed of his rights and was not handed a search warrant upon his arrest last month. Mahungela is continuing his bail application after he was arrested for the alleged premeditated murder and rape of Johannesburg teacher Kirsten Kluyts. The 34-year-old Delta Park High School English teacher was murdered while taking part in a local sporting event in October.

Political Analyst and Worldwide Institute of Leadership and Development founder, Professor Mazwe Majola says the recent announcement by former president Jacob Zuma that he is endorsing a new political party ahead of the 2024 elections, is an attempt to destabilise the African National Congress. Zuma announced that he would be voting for the newly-formed uMkhonto Wesizwe political party and has called on other ANC, MKMVA members, and South Africans to vote for the new organisation. The families of nine people who were shot dead in a home in an informal settlement in Boitekong outside Rustenburg are expected to identify their loved ones today. Local residents say the motive for the mass shooting in the North West on Saturday night is linked to a conflict over stock theft. No arrests have been made. Impala Bafokeng Platinum is threatening legal action against any employee who participates in an illegal underground protest. Disgruntled Impala mineworkers are reportedly planning an underground sit-in due to several issues with the mine and labour union, NUM. One major concern for the workers is the 140 million allegedly spent by the union on buying shares in the mine. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter Sashin Naidoo
