The City of Ekurhuleni says motorists whose vehicles have been impounded for various transgressions have until the 11th of December...that's NEXT MONTH, to come forward and claim their cars before the city auctions them off. The City says 753 vehicles are currently in their possession and that owners of the vehicles will be held liable for expenses incurred for the storage and removal of the vehicles. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, Zweli Dlamini.

Police have urged insurance companies to put in systems in place in order to detect fraudulent insurance claims which have led to the death of relatives within the same family. This comes as a  49-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Mmabatho Magistrate's court in the North West on a charge of murder. It is alleged that she murdered her relative in order to benefit from insurance claims. Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe explains further.

 Non Profit Organisation, the Ground Work Collective has kicked off a campaign aimed at encouraging young people to register for the upcoming 2024 general elections. The campaign comes as the  Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) hold its first Voter Registration drive this weekend. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to the founder of Ground Work Collective, Mbali Ntuli.

Consumers have been paying close attention to the terms of their insurance policies as insurance companies process an influx of claims in the wake of property damages caused by recent hailstorms in parts of the country. Some of the areas affected by the storms include Rosebank, Midrand and Soweto in Gauteng. The humanitarian group, Gift of the Givers says the head of its office in Gaza had been killed in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Founder Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman, says Ahmed Abbasi and his brother were killed when they returned from morning prayers on Thursday.

 The National Assembly is expected to debate a motion today at 2pm in the name of EFF leader, Julius Malema. The motion is on the possible removal of the Israel embassy in Pretoria and the suspension of relations between South Africa and Israel.  Retired police Brigadier Jap Burger, has just concluded his engagement with members of Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts. Burger has assured committee members that state capture still remains prevalent at many of the country's State Owned Enterprises. He also confirmed the prevalence of organised syndicates operating at different spheres at Eskom. Burger concluded by advising parliament to look at corruption as a symptom of organised crime and that the National Security Council should consider the situation at Eskom as a key priority to the country's stability.

The Independent Electoral Commission is once again encouraging South Africans to register this coming weekend as the country prepares for the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. The IEC was briefing the media earlier, on the state of readiness ahead of the voter registration weekend. Sy Mamabolo, IEC Chief Electoral Officer explains 

The Competition Commission and Standard Chartered Bank have reached an agreement after eight years of litigation. The agreement comes as 27 other banks allegedly involved in collusion are appearing before the Commission. The collusion relates to foreign exchange markets, specifically rand-dollar exchanges, dating as from back as 2015. The banks are seeking an order to set aside a Competition Tribunal's order of March 2023. The banks have approached the Competition Appeal Court to seek determination on whether South African competition authorities have the jurisdiction to prosecute them. Tender mafia tendencies are becoming common in the construction sector. Construction on the Gauteng government's Mega Housing Project in Durban Deep in the far west of Johannesburg, is on hold as a result of a dispute over who should receive a portion of multimillion-rand contracts.
