The National Department of Health is concerned about the rise of flu cases across the country since the beginning of May. The department was notified by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) of the increasing circulation of influenza around the country.Provinces such as Kwazulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and North West have seen an increase in case.  Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, has welcomed the Free State High Court's judgement, dismissing Dr Nandipha Magudumana's urgent application with costs. Magudumana wanted the court to declare her arrest, in Tanzania, illegal. She is among the seven people arrested for aiding and abetting murder and rape convict, Thabo Bester, to escape from prison. Motsoaledi says Magudumana's release would have been an injustice.

Family, friends and associates of the late columnist and analyst, Eusebius McKaiser, say they are deeply saddened and shocked at his sudden passing. In the small town of Makhanda in the Eastern Cape, where McKaiser spent his formative years, he is hailed as a hero because he championed the rights of underprivileged girls through his campaigns for free access to sanitary towels. Over 35 organisations are expected to converge at the Union Buildings, to protest against undocumented and illegal foreign nationals. The organisations are saying that South Africa is facing a myriad of challenges such as crime and many social ills, and that foreign nationals are worsening the situation.  A group of scholar transport drivers gathered outside the Mitcell's Plain Magistrate's Court, on the Cape Flats, have apologised for the tragic crash that resulted in the deaths of five primary schools children.The children were flung from a Bakkie in which they were being transported to school. It's alleged the driver lost control of the vehicle, after which it overturned. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Mlamli Maneli 

All eyes will be on former ANC Secretary-General, Ace Magashule for the next couple of days following his guilty verdict by the party's National Disciplinary Committee. His successor, Fikile Mbalula announced on Wednesday that Magashule was found guilty of misconduct and faces possible expulsion. He has been given seven days to explains why the party should not do so. Magashule was charged of unilaterally suspending party president, Cyril Ramaphosa and subsequently refused to apologised to him and structures of the party. Former African National Congress Secretary General, Ace Magashule has been found guilty of misconduct by the party's National Disciplinary Committee after he failed to apologise to party president Cyril Ramaphosa and the party's structures, for unilaterally suspending Ramaphosa in 2021. In announcing the committee's decision, the ANC's current Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula said Magashule has 7 days to justify why he should not be expelled from the party....

The Auditor-General, Tsakani Maluleke says a lack of adequate skills within local municipalities continues to negatively hamper the financial standing of such institutions. Maluleke is currently engaging with members of the Standing Committee on the Auditor General in parliament on Local Government Outcomes. Poor financial planning and inadequate financial controls have been identified as the leading causes of the bad financial state on many municipalities across the country. Maluleke explains...

Health Minister Joe Phaahla says laboratory-confirmed cholera cases are spread over three provinces, Limpopo, the Free State and Gauteng, with Gauteng being the epicentre of the outbreak. Phaahla together with officials from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) provided an update on the country's outbreak, which started in February. Phaahla says there's been no new cases in the past seven days...

The SABC is currently appearing before the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA)  to presents its annual report and financial statements for the financial year 2021/22. The committee is hearing the progress made by the SABC on investigations, issues of irregular expenditure and financial accountability.  Member of  the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Bheki Hadebe,  says for the past 5 years the organisation has been failing to deal with the issue of irregular expenditure. He asked what progress has been made and is the organistaion satisfied that in the next financial year it will be able to disclose all instances of irregular  expenditures.
