The case against the alleged Cato Manor serial rapist has been postponed in the Durban Magistrates Court to Monday, the 28th of September. This is to allow the state to find out if there are any outstanding charges against the 46-year old man. The 46-year old man made his first court appearance in connection with the 15 rapes committed between 2014 and 2025. Meanwhile, another serial rapist - who was also arrested last week - is expected to make his first court appearance in the Mahlabathini magistrates Court. The water crisis in the embattled Thaba Chweu Municipality in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga, persists. This, despite an undertaking to address the problem some five years ago. Residents have raised concerns over the water quality and sewage pollution. Recent water samples tested showed unsafe levels of coliform bacteria and alkalinity recorded at a warning level. The newly-registered United Democratic Front Party has unveiled its provincial election manifesto for the Western Cape. It took place in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats at the same venue where the now disbanded UDF was initially launched. Despite issues with the IEC, the party says they are ready to compete in the local government election on November 4th.

The killing of women took the centre stage at the EFF's Western Cape election manifesto launch in Delft, Cape Town. Party leader, Julius Malema, condemned the recent killing of women in Ekurhuleni, describing it as a declaration of war. He has called on communities to help police find those responsible. Police have identified three persons of interest in connection with the murder of nine women whose bodies were found in Ekurhuleni in Gauteng since July. Acting Police Commissioner, Firoz Cachalia, says the three have been called in for questioning as investigations continue. Police are searching for suspects in a triple murder at the Phumlani informal settlement in Lingelethu West, Philippi, on the Cape Flats. Three men were shot in a shack on Sunday night.The fourth person was wounded and taken to hospital. Police spokesperson Andre Traut says, “Police responded to a shooting at an informal dwelling in NB63, Phumlani. On arrival, members found four males with gunshot wounds inside the dwelling.” Traut says, “Three victims, aged between 27 and 36, were declared deceased at the scene, while a 38-year-old male was transported to a medical facility for treatment. Serious Violent Crime detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No arrests have been made at this stage”.

Police in Durban have arrested a 46-year-old suspected serial rapist accused of raping 16 women between 2014 and 2025. The suspect allegedly targeted women in Cato Manor, as well as victims in Plessislaer and Taylor’s Halt. Police say he followed women from taverns to their homes, where he allegedly raped and robbed them. In some cases, he allegedly broke into homes and raped women at knifepoint. Investigators linked the cases through DNA evidence and identified a common modus operandi.  The suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today on multiple rape, housebreaking and attempted murder charges. Young people in Mangaung have expressed mixed views about the Free State Youth Opportunities Expo. Some say the expo did not live up to their expectations, as they could not find any employment opportunities available for them. Others however, are hopeful that the information provided will help open doors to entrepreneurship and economic opportunities.
