The CRL Rights Commission is currently holding investigative hearings into alleged abuse at the Universal Church. Some of the alleged violations include, forced male sterilization, denial of rights to attend family funerals, young people forced to leave school and women pressured to commit abortions. Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, has announced that the former superintendent general of the provincial Health Department, Dr Thobile Mbengashe, will face disciplinary action - following the SIU's findings relating to last year's procurement of ambulance scooters intended to assist Covid19 patients. Speaking during a media briefing in Bisho, Mabuyane also announced that Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba has been relieved of her duties - after she was charged with corruption and fraud linked to the Nelson Mandela Funeral scandal. The alleged fraud amounts to 10-million rand that was siphoned from the Buffalo City Municipality, by flouting tender processes during the Mandela funeral in 2013. Mabuyane says Gomba will remain a member of the provincial legislature.

Residents in Breipaal, Douglas in the Northern Cape are living in fear and are under victimization following forced removals in the area. Some have been staying in Breipaal for over 20 years and say they are being kicked out like dogs from their places by those in power who are involved in dodgy dealings.We spoke to one of the Residents there and got reaction from Mr Martin Fillis, the Municipal Manager of Siyancuma Local Municipality in the Northen Cape.

The Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises, is outraged and dismayed by the fruitless and wasteful expenditure by Eskom, which was incurred in the building of accommodation for Eskom employees at Kusile power station. Power Utility Eskom has allegedly spent R840 million on a housing project for its Kusile Power Station staff, But the project of 336 units has been abandoned and still remains unfinished. The state-owned entity has allegedly spent more than R1-billion to date on renting accommodation for the same employees it had planned to house in the 336 units in the Wilge Residential Development project. In July 2012, Eskom entered into a contract with the Liviero Group to construct the Wilge flats. The group has since gone under voluntary business rescue, and one of its companies has been liquidated. The indebted Eskom has been struggling to keep the lights on over the past few years.
