Thousands of taxi commuters are without transport this morning, following a total shutdown by the SA National Taxi Council - SANTACO. This is in protest against the Covid-19 relief package as announced by Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula on Friday. Mbalula says government has allocated more than one-billion rand to the taxi industry to mitigate the devastating economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The taxi industry says the funding is not enough.Meanwhile, SANTACO Western Cape says it will leave that decision to individual taxi associations and will not be advocating for fare increases as a Provincial Structure. The department of public enterprises says it will oppose a court application to have SA Airways placed under provisional liquidation. The department said it was notified of a court application by SA Airlink aimed at interdicting the business rescue practitioners of SAA from convening a creditors' meeting to vote on a business rescue plan for SAA. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) says it is working on an appeal system for the aggrieved applicants of the R350 social grant. This follows complaints of lack of clarity in the criteria followed by the agency in approving or rejecting applications. Frustrated unemployed South Africans took to social media complaining that they have been declined the grant despite meeting the requirements to qualify. While some applications are still pending - a month after applying, others have been rejected on claims of other sources of income.We spoke to SASSA CEO, Busisiwe Memela-Khambule.

Yesterday we covered a story of a Johannesburg mother who gave birth to triplets at the Rahima Moosa hospital who is questioning the alleged mysterious death of 1 of her children . Hilda Mpofu gave birth to triplets (2 girls and 1 boy) at the hospital last week. She was then discharged without her children because they needed extra care. She was later she was told that 1 of her babies had died. Then, a shortwhile later she was told that it is the little boy who didn't make it. To add to her confusion, the hospital later told her that she in fact gave birth to 2 boys and 1 girl, NOT the other way around, and that is it the boy who died, even though according to Hilda's knowledge and initial birth papers she gave birth to 2 girls and 1 boy. She is confused and refuses to accept the body of the baby boy until the hospital explains and proves what exactly transpired.We spoke to Rahima Moosa Hospital CEO. Dr Frew Benson
