Discussions about journalism and the media continue today at the Highway Africa conference in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape. This is the 22nd year of the annual meeting of minds. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to various speakers including Siyabonga Africa who is programme officer at the South African Media Innovation Programme, who talked about entrepreneurial journalism.

The EFF says it is considering legal action against the Investigative Journalism Centre, AmaBhungane. This relates to a story that a fleet company that won the City's of Joburg's one-billion-rand contract made payments to a company linked to EFF leader Julius Malema. Ntebo Mokobo reports.

Parties in Parliament have welcomed today’s ruling by the high court in Cape Town which dismissed Afriforum’s application to urgently halt next week’s sitting of the National Assembly and the NCOP to start the process of amending Section 25 of the Constituin which deals with the expropriation of land without compensation. The lobby group went to court to argue that close to 180 000 written submissions were excluded from the process. It says it will pursue the matter because the court did not rule on the merits of its case. Parliament will proceed with the process to amend section 25 of the constitution next week. Former South African Airways Board Chair, Cheryl Carolus, has taken the stand at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in Parktown, Johannesburg. Carolus and other board members resigned as board members of SAA in 2012. Carolus said at the time that her relationship with the then Public Enterprises Minister, Malusi Gigaba, had broken down irretrievably. In her testimony today, Carolus says she is disturbed by the events that have occurred in South Africa over the past 10 years. Carolus' evidence is led by advocate Kate Hofmeyr.

11 million children in South Africa are at risk of developing a condition known as stunting because of poor nutrition. Stunting is when children do not develop at the same pace or level as their peers do. The high rate of child poverty and stunting has prompted the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to raise this as a priority for government. One of the ways in which government is trying to remedy this problem is through the child support grant. But as Krivani Pillay asks, is this enough to save the country's children?

Disability rights organisations have called on the government to do more to root out the problem of sexual abuse of children with mental disabilities. An investigation by the SABC 1 Current Affairs programme, Cutting Edge, has uncovered widespread sexual abuse of children with disabilities in special schools in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal. Parents that Cutting Edge spoke to, say their children are emotionally destroyed and their development hampered. Sexual abuse cases involving children with disabilities are often difficult to investigate as the victims are unable to tell police their story. Zimkhita Manqinana filed this report.

ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe has started testifying before the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in Parktown, Johannesburg. This after GCIS head Mzwanele Manyi concluded his testimony by saying that his dismantling of the bid adjudication committee at government communication did not flout any regulations. Manyi previously testified that upon arriving at GCIS he found a "mini VBS" taking place. Manyi says all his changes were above board. He earlier requested that evidence leader advocate Vincent Maleka recuse himself saying he is biased against him. Meanwhile commission chairperson and Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has warned against the intimidation of witnesses.

The Special Investigating Unit says it has found that there were irregularities in the awarding of several contracts by the SABC. The SIU briefed Parliament this morning on its probe into public broadcaster's unlawful payments. SIU Head Andy Mothibi has outlined the progress of some of the investigations.
