National treasury employee Jan Gilliland has revealed how 11 bank accounts related to Gupta owned companies received million of rands from government. Gilliland has been testifying at the State Capture Commission of Inquiry sitting in Parktown Johannesburg. This week, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo who chairs the commission, will also deliver judgement on whether those who have applied to cross examine witnesses that have incriminated them, will be granted their request. More names of witnesses are set to be announced in the coming weeks. Gilliland had the following to say.

The Thelle Mogoerane hospital in Vosloorus on Gauteng's east rand says three babies who had contracted klebsiella have been discharged while four others are still being treated. Five babies died between July and August this year following an outbreak. The DA claimed yesterday that the department had reported that only two babies died during the said period. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to the hospital's Acting CEO Dr. Jatin Martin Canda who says they are doing all they can to stop the spread of the bacteria which often leads to other illnesses.

The Sunday Times says it stands by its story that former president Jacob Zuma and other senior ANC officials are plotting to overthrow president Cyril Ramaphosa. This after the ANC called on the newspaper to retract its report which claimed that a number of the party's leaders attended a secret meeting to discuss ways in which they could overturn the results of last year's Nasrec conference. The report, by Qaanitah Hunter and Jeff Wicks, states that the meeting was led by former president Jacob Zuma and that those attending it included the party's secretary-general Ace Magashule, former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo and ANC Youth League Secretary in KZN, Thanduxolo Sabelo as well as the ANC Women's League secretary-general Meokgo Matuba. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Hunter and started by asking her whether they will retract the story.

The Centre for Child Law is challenging a High Court ruling which dismissed their application which called for the extension of identity protection of minors turning 18 during or after criminal proceedings. The court said this protection would not be indefinite as media houses can name child victims‚ witnesses or crime accused once they turn 18. The Centre for Child Law brought the application following the controversial Zephany Nurse court case. Zephany Nurse came to prominence after it was discovered she was kidnapped as a baby in 1997. Her kidnapper‚ who raised her as her own child‚ was convicted for the kidnapping in August 2016. During the case Nurse‚ who uses another name‚ and the centre were concerned that the media would reveal her true identity once she turns 18‚ leading to emotional trauma and public scrutiny.

Public Works Minister, Thulas Nxesi says the torching of government buildings is too much of a coincidence. Minister, Nxesi and the Ministers of Health Aaron Motsoaledi were briefing the media on an attempted burning down of Civitas Building which house the National Department of Health. They are suggesting that the fire could be linked to the state capture investigations.

The Banking Association of South Africa has warned of serious consequences of changing constitution to expropriate land. The association is making oral presentations on possible expropriation of land without compensation in Parliament. The Constitutional Review Committee is expected to wrap up its hearings of oral submissions on the possible amendment of the constitution to facilitate the expropriation.

Property owners renting out buildings used as spaza shops to foreigners in Soweto, are living in fear as threats of violence against them intensify. Last week chaos broke out in several parts of the township as locals clashed with foreign shop owners. Three people were killed. The violence follows allegations that foreign-owned shops were selling fake or expired goods. There has also been reports that this particular outbreak of violence was sparked by the killing of a teenage boy allegedly by a foreign shop owner. Legal representative for Ajay Gupta, Mike Hellens, has submitted a request to the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, that seeks to bar witnesses from seeing Ajay Gupta's response to their statements implicating him. Advocate Hellens is seeking to cross examine both former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor and former GCIS head Themba Maseko. Western Cape Forensic Pathology Services have confirmed that they have retrieved all the remains of the victims who died in Monday's explosion at the Rheinmetall Denel Munitions plant In Somerset West. It says teams are currently conducting DNA matching to identify the victims. Initial indications are that 8 people died in the blast, however the company is refuting this figure saying they cannot confirm the number of fatalities. Berenice Moss reports.

The fire at the Bank of Lisbon Building in the Johannesburg CBD continues to rage on this afternoon. Three fire fighters died yesterday as they attempted to douse the flames, which have since spread to other floors today. Eight of their colleagues are currently in hospital with two in critical condition. Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba, says structures that are not compliant with safety standards, must be demolished and rebuilt.
