Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe is considering withdrawing the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) Amendment Bill. The minister says the current act can govern the mining sector, and the petroleum sector can have its own legislative framework. This follows several delays in Parliament. The DA has asked the High Court in Kimberely in the Northern Cape, to declare a meeting that saw former Mayor of the Sol Plaatje Municipality, Mangaliso Matika ousted, as legal. Matika was removed during a special council meeting last month and Pule Thabane was elected as the new mayor. Other opposition parties including the ANC and the EFF are also in court. The DA says should the court find that the meeting was illegal it should rule that a special council meeting be held within five days of the ruling. Our reporter Refilwe Mekoa is in court.

Companies doing business with St. George's Fine Foods have distanced themselves from one of the shareholders, Adam Catzavelos, and the comments he made regarding black people. There has been an outrage after a video emerged in which Catzavelos calls black people the "k" word and expresses that he is happy that there are none at the beach he was at in Greece at the time. His family has also dismissed him from the company. Elvis Presslin spoke to our producer Aphiwe Honono who has been following the story.

Opposition parties in Zimbabwe that wanted to make submissions to the Constitutional Court regarding the MDC Alliance's legal challenge against last month's elections have been dismissed. The court says the documents were not handed in on time. Senior Counsel for the MDC Alliance, Thabani Mpofu is currently in court arguing that the July elections should be nullify because of alleged rigging on ZANU-PF's part. The party' won both the parliamentary and presidential elections. Earlier this morning the MDC Alliance's legal representatives were barred from entering the court. This team includes heavy weights, advocates Thembeka Ngcukaitobi and Dali Mpofu. Our correspondent in Zimbabwe is Ephert Musekiwa and he spoke to Elvis Presslin.

The Chief Financial Officer of the SABC has told Parliament that the public broadcaster is in a dire financial situation. Yolande van Biljon says the organisation will only have R26 million at the end of this month. The SABC together with the Communications Minister are appearing before the Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Communications today. Procument issues have come under the spotlight during the first day of testimonies at the State Capture Commission of Inquiry. Acting National Treasury Chief Procurement Officer, Ndleleni Mathubula is the first witness and he has told the commission that the bidding process must be more open and competitive. His was answering questions from the commission's evidence leader, Advocate Leah Gcabashe.

Scores of residents have started to gather at the offices of the local municipality in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape where the MEC for Roads and Transport Weziwe Tikana, is expected to address them. The community has shut down the the rural town over a demand for proper roads. There was a violent protest last week during which the residents were raising issues of poor service delivery. Three state vehicles as well as the Public Works office were torched, destroying important documents. Our reporter Fundiswa Mhlekude is following the story.

The Department of Water and Sanitation says it has so far issued 11 notices to the Emfuleni instructing it to stop the pollution in the Vaal River but it has not been cooperating. Raw sewerage has been spilling into the river and is having a dire effect on many business owners who have built their lives and livelihoods there. Guesthouse owners, adventure tour companies and fishing expeditions who all rely on the river to attract tourists say people are hesitant to visit the area as they fear for their health and safety. The South African rail, port and pipeline company, Transnet, has seen an 11.3% rise in revenue for the year ended March 2018. It's revenue is now at R72,9 billion. The company has had negative results with irregular expenditure running into millions. It is also one of the state-owned enterprises embroiled in the state capture scandal. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Transnet CEO Siyabonga Gama about the Transnet financial results.

The High Court in Cape Town has dismissed Henri van Breda's application for leave to appeal his conviction and sentence. He was found guilty of murdering his parents and his brother at their home in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape. His sister was severely injured during the attack. He hacked his family with an axe in 2015. Van Breda was sentenced to life for the murders and an additional 15 years for attempted murder.
