August 08, 2018Zim opposition leader Tendai Biti seeks asylum in ZambiaTendai Biti's Lawyer, Nqobizitha Mlilo says the Zimbabwean opposition figure is seeking political asylum in Zambia because he fears for his life. Biti was arrested at the border post between that country and Zimbabwe earlier today. Police in his home country say they want to question Biti following the country's disputed elections which took place last week. Violence broke out as thousands of opposition supporters protested against the announcement of a two-thirds majority for President Emmerson Magagwa's Zanu-PF party. August 06, 2018COGTA appoints 81 engineers and town planners to deal with infrastructure problems at municipalitiesThe Department of Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs has appointed 81 new town planners and engineers who will help improve the infrastructure of municipalities. Sixty percent of municipalities in the country have collapsed or are near collapsing due ot issues of governance, infrastructure and financial mismanagement. This has led to failure in providing adequate service delivery. Municipal IQ which collects data on local municipalities says there has been nearly 150 protests since the beginning of 2018. Residents are staging a protest outside the ANC's headquarters at Luthuli House, over title deeds that have not been issued. Alex as the area is popularly known, is one of the oldest townships in the country. August 06, 2018Mayosi's wife says UCT manipulated her husband to stay in his jobNonhlanhla Khumalo-Mayosi, wife of the late Professor, Bongani Mayosi, says the University of Cape Town used his high sense of duty to keep him at the institution despite his clear indications that he wanted to resign as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. She says Mayosi's attempts to resign from his position were denied by UCT on two occasions. Last week, he committed suicide after battling depression for almost two years. Mayosi's funeral was held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. He was granted a special provincial official funeral by President Cyril Ramaphosa. He was 51-years-old.
