The ANC Youth League has called on the controversial Member of Parliament and former Deputy Higher Education Minister Mduduzi Manana to resign. This after a recording of him allegedly offering to pay 100-thousand rand to his domestic worker Christine Wiro, emerged. This was in exchange for dropping the assault charges against him. Manana allegedly pushed Wiro down the stairs of his Fourways home after she reportedly opened the gate for someone Manana was not expecting. A researcher says parents in South Africa are not doing enough to protect their children. This comes after a couple from Phoenix north of Durbanwas arrested on charges of attempting to murder their four-year-old daughter. A video of the woman assaulting the little girl went viral on social media in March this year. It's also alleged her boyfriend also punched the child before throwing her against a cabinet. He can be heard in the video encouraging the woman to hit the child. The couple had initially been charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm but the charge was changed to attempted murder after the video surfaced. The boyfriend handed himself over to police after his car was torched by angry protesters. The four-year-old developed a blood clot on her brain and was also left with bruises to her body and swollen legs. Civil society group "not In My Name" has marched to Mamelodi police station to voice their anger about how the officers there dealt with the case of the late 10-year old Katlego Joja, who was found dead in a river near her home at the weekend. It is unclear how she died. Police told her family to wait for 24-hours before the case could be taken up officially. Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane visited the family yesterday, and announced that some police officials have been suspended pending a disciplinary process. She apologised to the family. However, the NGO says government must ensure that the police do their job, instead of dealing with the situation after such incidents have occurred. North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has made an about turn regarding his resignation and now says it is up to the Provincial Executive Committee to decide his fate. Mahumapelo told SABC News last night that he'll also meet with the provincial government over his decision to quit. Talk of his resignation follows weeks of unrest in the North West with communities calling for him to vacate office. Here's what he had to say to his supporters who disrupted the PEC Meeting today.

North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has told the provincial legislature that he will hand over a letter to the speaker on Friday.
Mahumapelo, who was delivering his budget speech on Tuesday, did not say what the letter would include, but indicated it would be in line with the Constitution.

A six-month-old baby has been killed, allegedly by her own father, at Hlala-Mpja near Mookgopong. The 27-year-old man accused the child's mother of cheating. The 19-year-old mother had ended the relationship after accusing the suspect Lesiba Motsai, of abuse. The child's aunt and grandmother allegedly witnessed the incident at the suspect's home. Motsai has already appeared in court on a charge of murder and it is reported that he intends to plead guilty. The case has been postponed to 31 May for bail application.
In another incident, A 10-year-old girl has been found hanging from a tree at her home at Saselamani outside Malamulele in Limpopo. The police say Ntwisiso Chablalala who is a grade 4 learner was discovered by a friend.

Classes have been suspended at the University of the Free State Qwaqwa campus. This follows students protest that led to the shutdown of the institution. Students embarked on a protest after a number of students received SMSes that they were being de-registered.

The DA has rescinded Cape Town mayor Patricia De Lille's membership. The party's Federal Executive Committee has announced the decision at a media briefing.The DA says it expects Deputy Cape Town Mayor Ian Neilson to take over as acting mayor after the DA rescinded Patricia De Lille's membership. It's not clear, however, whether De Lille will cease to be mayor unless she resigns or the city council passes a vote of no confidence in her. The DA's Federal Executive Committee says De Lille's membership ceased on the 26th of April when she publicly stated on a radio station that she would resign at the end of her legal battle with the DA. Last week, she indicated that she would go to court if the Fedex did not rule in her favour.

The missing ten-year-old girl from Mamelodi, East of Pretoria, has been found dead. Katlego Joja went missing last Thursday morning while playing at her Mamelodi West home. Her mother thought she was in the outside room with her grandmother, while the grandmother thought she was in the main house.

Home owners in Protea Glen, south of Johannesburg have vowed to stop any in attempts by group of Land invaders to occupy vacant land in the area. In what could be seen as a "face off" between Protea Glen residents and those trying to occupying the land, saw the blockading of several roads to stop those who are erecting shacks in the area. According to authorities, the group has been trying to illegally grab land for the past week, claiming they wanted the space to build their homes.
