This comes after a couple from Phoenix north of Durbanwas arrested on charges of attempting to murder their four-year-old daughter. A video of the woman assaulting the little girl went viral on social media in March this year. It's also alleged her boyfriend also punched the child before throwing her against a cabinet. He can be heard in the video encouraging the woman to hit the child. The couple had initially been charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm but the charge was changed to attempted murder after the video surfaced. The boyfriend handed himself over to police after his car was torched by angry protesters. The four-year-old developed a blood clot on her brain and was also left with bruises to her body and swollen legs. May 09, 2018Civil society group "Not In My Name" marches to Mamelodi police after a missing child was found deadCivil society group "not In My Name" has marched to Mamelodi police station to voice their anger about how the officers there dealt with the case of the late 10-year old Katlego Joja, who was found dead in a river near her home at the weekend. It is unclear how she died. Police told her family to wait for 24-hours before the case could be taken up officially. Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane visited the family yesterday, and announced that some police officials have been suspended pending a disciplinary process. She apologised to the family. However, the NGO says government must ensure that the police do their job, instead of dealing with the situation after such incidents have occurred. May 08, 20186-month-old baby killed allegedly by her fatherA six-month-old baby has been killed, allegedly by her own father, at Hlala-Mpja near Mookgopong. The 27-year-old man accused the child's mother of cheating. The 19-year-old mother had ended the relationship after accusing the suspect Lesiba Motsai, of abuse. The child's aunt and grandmother allegedly witnessed the incident at the suspect's home. Motsai has already appeared in court on a charge of murder and it is reported that he intends to plead guilty. The case has been postponed to 31 May for bail application. In another incident, A 10-year-old girl has been found hanging from a tree at her home at Saselamani outside Malamulele in Limpopo. The party's Federal Executive Committee has announced the decision at a media briefing.The DA says it expects Deputy Cape Town Mayor Ian Neilson to take over as acting mayor after the DA rescinded Patricia De Lille's membership. It's not clear, however, whether De Lille will cease to be mayor unless she resigns or the city council passes a vote of no confidence in her. The DA's Federal Executive Committee says De Lille's membership ceased on the 26th of April when she publicly stated on a radio station that she would resign at the end of her legal battle with the DA.
