President, Jacob Zuma has announced in a televised statement that he is stepping down as the country's leader. Zuma's resignation comes hours after the ANC NEC earlier in the day said they would be tabling a vote of no confidence against him in parliament after he initially refused to heed their call to step down. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to lecturer at the University of Cape Town's School of Law Kgomotso Moshikaro who says the interim period between now and the next elections has no effect of the two terms due to be served by the new state president.

The United Nations has expressed its grave concern over allegations against four SANDF peacekeepers who stand accused of sexual exploitation and abuse in addition to a separate case of physical violence perpetrated against a 17-year old boy in the DRC. The UN also welcomed a statement by the SANDF that a formal investigation has been instituted and that an investigating team has been dispatched the region. Illegal miners have caused about 800-million rand in damage to the sewerage network in the cash-strapped Matjhabeng Municipality in Welkom in the Free State. Mayor Nkosinjani Speelman says the illegal miners - known as Zama Zamas - use sewage water to separate gold from gold-bearing rocks. In order to get the water, they are destroying the sewerage system in Thabong. The community has also been living in fear as Zama Zamas have been engaging in gun battles in their quest for the most gold. Maryna van Wyk reports....

The State in the Henri van Breda axe murder case has submitted to the High Court in Cape Town that Van Breda be found guilty as charged. Susan Galloway argued that circumstantial evidence is so overwhelming that Van Breda is the one who attacked and killed his mother, father, brother and attempted to kill his sister at their Stellenbosch home in 2015.
