Mkhwebane says this is to be done to avoid any further allegations of State Capture being lodged with the Office of the Public Protector. The MKMVA has thrown its full weight behind the new ANC leader as elected at the governing party's 54th congress last month. MKMVA had publicly declared its support for former AU commission chairperson Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma on a ticket that the party is ready for a female leader. However deputy party president at the time Cyril Ramaphosa emerged victorious. ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has directed two factions in the KwaZulu-Natal to set aside their differences and work together for the sake of unity in the organisation. Ramaphosa was speaking at the grave sites of both the late ANC President, Dr. John Langalibalele Dube at Ohlange outside Durban and of Inkosi Albert Luthuli at Groutville north of Durban.
