COSATU in KwaZulu-Natal has vowed to curb the ill-treatment of workers at Durban factories following an exposé by the SABC of female workers being stripped naked on suspicions of theft when they knock off duty. At least two companies have admitted to the practice of strip searching while the labour department has also found that workers in these factories are exploited and under paid. Suspended head of the Gauteng Health Department Dr Barney Selebano has told the Life Esidimeni hearings in Johannesburg that he was scared to stand up to then MEC Qedani Mahlangu. Selebano says he agreed with Chief Director Molefi Mosenogi that the move could have dire consequences if carrid out hurriedly. Mosenogi led the project to transfer the mentally-ill patients to ill-eqqipped and unlicensed NGOs. Before patients were moved, Mosenogi wrote a letter the then MEC requesting a minimum of six months' extension for the project, saying it could not be carried out in three months. Road Traffic Management Cooperation CEO, Advocate Makhosini Msibi has committed to ensuring that law enforcement officers work throughout the night in order to tackle transgressions on the road that occur after sunset. Msibi together with transport minister, Joe Maswanganyi yesterday launched the holiday road safety campaign in Limpopo where the N1 has experienced a high number of accidents. In Gauteng, more than forty people have died on the roads since the start of December alone and many of those killed were pedestrians who were struck by cars.

The ANC says it will welcome any probe into whether the pay-channel MULTICHOICE engaged in corrupt and unethical conduct to influence government policy over digital migration. This follows damning revelations that MULTICHOICE executives sought to pay the SABC 100 million rand and the GUPTA owned TV network ANN7 allegedly in exchange for its political influence over government's position on set-top boxes. Yesterday, the ANC sub-committee on Communications and Battles of Ideas presented an update on a discussion document focusing on media transformation ahead of the December 16th national elective conference.
