An administrator responsible for mortuary services at the Mamelodi Hospital has contradicted the evidence of his counterpart from Cullian Care and Rehabilitation Centre over a decomposed body of a mentally-ill patient. Nwagu Rasidzoga from Cullinan told the Life Esidimeni hearings in Parktown, Johannesburg over a week ago that the body of Joseph Gumede was transferred to the Mamelodi hospital in a good state. And had requested an emergency service because Cullian mortuary's fridge was overheating. However, Mamelodi Hospital Admin officer Daniel Buda says the corpse was already decomposed when they received it on the 16th of August last year. Wisani Makhubele compiled this report.....

Suspended head of the Gauteng Health Department Dr Barney Selebano will know on Monday next week whether or not he will testify at the Life Esidimeni hearings. The High Court in Johannesburg is expected to deliver its judgment then after Selebano approached it to set aside a subpoena ordering him to appear before the hearing to testify. Newly-appointed South African Airways CEO, Vuyani Jarana, says the airline has an outstanding debt of over 13-billion-rand. He says they expect to pay seven-billion of the 10-billion-rand capital injection to offset some of the debt. Jarana has told Parliament's Standing Committee on Finance that even after the payment of the bailout, the airline will still owe over nine-billion-rand. Parliamentarians have expressed hope that the new management and board will be able to turn the airline around.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu and provincial ANC Chairperson Sihle Zikalala have paid tribute to the late leader of the Nazareth Baptist Church Vela Shembe.
