Fraud and corruption is increasing in the government sector as well as the private sector. So says adv. Charl Strydom from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Strydom delivered a presentation on fraud trends and practises at the Bloemfontein seminar of the Fraud Awareness week. He says incidences of fraud and corruption in the workplace, no matter how big or small, are not going to subside. Maryna van Wyk reports....

The Hawks have revealed that an investigation has been underway into Guan Jiang Guang, a member of a an alleged rhino horns trafficker and a member of a crime syndicate who is reported to have links with State Security Minister David Mahlobo. The allegations were made in a documentary that was broadcast by television network, al-Jazeera. In the documentary Guan Jiang Guang boasts that Mahlobo is his friend. The Water and Sanitation Department says it will take up to two or three years for the country to recover from the drought conditions it's currently experiencing. Government earlier declared eight provinces - including KwaZulu-Natal - disaster areas due to insufficient rainfall. Many municipalities across the country have been forced to impose water restrictions as a result. Authorities say despite the recent rains there has been no significant change in dam levels. The Free State government has set its sights on exploring the flower industry as a means to grow the economy and boost tourism. Tourists and flower experts have descended on Parys for the inaugural Madeira Flower festival .The concept was born from a high level government trade visit to the Portuguese island of Madeira in March this year. ANC Treasurer-General Zweli Mkhize does not rule out the possibility of reconciling with party members who contested the August municipal elections as independent candidates and taking them back to the party. Mkhize met with party members in Phoenix west of Durban to listen to their concerns as part of a decision by the national leadership to visit all wards where the party's candidate selection process created tensions among party members. In Phoenix, the party lost seven wards and won only one ward, losing even the ward previously under party control. Vusi Makhosini reports

More than 200 families have been left destitute following a storm that hit eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. The storm uprooted trees and powerlines in Kwaguqa and the surrounding areas. The Emalaheni Disaster Management Team is assessing the extent of the damage. The municipality has promised to provide the affected families with food parcels, blankets and shelter. ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe, has called on ANC members to refrain from divisive behaviour ahead of next year's national elective conference. Mantashe also says corruption, state looting and factionalism within the party are contributory factors to weakening the ANC. He was speaking at the cadres forum held in Mahikeng in the North West.
