Gauteng police say four foreign nationals have been arrested following a clash with residents of the Mandela informal settlement near Katlehong in Ekurhuleni. They have confirmed that one person has been killed and several others, including five foreign nationals, have been wounded. Shops belonging to foreign nationals have also been looted. Vantage Gold has finally found a way to reach the three miners trapped underground at the Lily Mine in Mpumalanga. However this plan will take six months to be complete. Solomon Nyerenda, Pretty Nkambule and Yvonne Mnisi were trapped underground over a month ago when the container they were working in collapsed into an 80 metre deep sinkhole. Disabled children may be able to attend mainstream schools by 2021. During the Disability Summit currently taking place in Centurion north of Johannesburg, President Jacob Zuma has called for an end to the stereotyping and segregation of children living with disabilities. Political parties have widely condemned the release on parole of the murderer of SACP and ANC struggle stalwart, Chris Hani. Janusz Walus was sentenced to death for the 1993 assassination of the much-loved and popular Hani, but it was later commuted to life. He was sentenced with his accomplice Clive Derb- Lewis who was released on medical parole last year. Some political parties are calling for his immediate deportation while others say it's time to review the whole parole system. Senior political journalist Amos Phago reports.

Former President Kgalema Motlanthe has warned that any decision by global ratings agencies to downgrade the country's sovereign rate to a junk status will be detrimental to the poor and vulnerable communities. Motlanthe was addressing the ANC Johannesburg Region members in Braamfontein last night. This comes after the rating agency Moody's said it had placed South Africa's long and short term ratings on review for a possible downgrade. During its visit next week, Moody's will want to determine if the likelihood of a decline in the country's economic strength will be reversed in the medium term. ANC Chairperson in KwaZulu-Natal Sihle Zikalala has called on party members to follow internal processes to lodge their grievances. He addressed the media at Mandeni on the north coast after a failed meeting with angry community members. The community refused to be addressed by the ANC leaders, demanding the release of more than 120 people arrested in connection with violent protests that saw six factories and several trucks set on fire in the area. Last night a clothing factory in the area was set alight as residents continue with their protest. Nonkululeko Hlophe reports.
