President Jacob Zuma has signed into law new tax legislation that will affect how workers receive their retirement funds. Cosatu has strongly criticized this move saying government has no right to dictate to workers how they receive their pension funds. A group of former mineworkers at Aquarius Platinum mine in Rustenburg in the North West are appealing to government to intervene after four of their colleagues died last week. The group of about five hundred men, mostly foreign nationals, have been living in squalid conditions in the abandoned mine hostels. They were dismissed by Murray and Roberts at Aquarius Mine after embarking on an unprotected strike in 2009. Conditions for these men are deteriorating and they're eating anything to survive.
