The alleged bribe relating to the World Cup that was awarded to France in 1998, was information not made clear in the main indictment released by the U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch last week. Charles or "Chuck" Blazer's sworn testimony in front of a judge in 2013, in which he also pleads guilty to racketeering, wire fraud, money laundering and tax evasion, confirms that he and others on the FIFA Executive agreed to accept bribes 'in conjunction' with the selection of South Africa as 2010 World Cup host. Murder accused, Christopher Panayiotou, will know today if he'll walk out of St Albans Prison when a ruling on his bail application is made in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court. Magistrate Abigail Beaton earlier postponed ruling on the bail application for a third time, saying she needed more time to study all the documents. Police Commission Riah Phiyega says there's an urgent need for her office to look at security at police stations after the death of five people in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg. Four people were shot dead at the local police station allegedly by an off duty police officer. Following the incident the officer ran back home, police gave chase and there was an exchange of fire in which he was also killed.

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe has called on Cosatu affiliates work towards unifying the labour federation. Mantashe was speaking at the 15th national congress of the National Union of Metal Workers. The conference comes at a time when the federation it is at its weakest, following internal squabbles which resulted in the expulsion of the biggest affiliate Numsa and subsequently cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi. With the emergence of construction and mine worker's union AMCU and the apparent alternative federation being mooted by Numsa, Mantashe has warned that unity has now become a critical need within cosatu. The Department of Energy says it is ready to start with the procurement process for South Africa's much-anticipated Nuclear Build Programme.
