Parliament will appeal the judgement by the High Court in Cape Town that found section 11 of the Powers Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act, invalid. The DA successfully challenged the Act in court. It deals with the removal and arrest of a disruptive MP from the chamber if instructed by the presiding officer to do so. The South African government has again been criticized for arresting suspected illegal immigrants. The Coalition of Movements Against Xenophobia says the raids were a heavy-handed response that have seen families separated and has led to various human rights abuses. In the latest raid, about 400 immigrants were arrested last Friday in an operation at the Central Methodist Church, a well-known shelter for refugees in downtown Johannesburg. Economic Development Minister Ibrahim Patel says the Industrial Development Corporation will set aside 23-billion rand over the next five years to promote the development of black industrialists. The Cypriot, George Louka, who allegedly killed Teazers boss Lolly Jackson, died last night due to stage four lung cancer. Louka was extradited last year to stand trial in South Africa. He however applied for medical parole in April, but this was turned down. Jacques Steenkamp reports
