Agenda-driven books aren't a new thing. They are everywhere. What do you do about it? Do you let your kids pick anything off the shelves? How do you decide what to let them read and at what ages? Do you have a good list you go by or do it book by book? We need to explore the why behind what's going on in children's literature and not "check out" as moms before we check out books at the library.
Sweet books I love that display a normal family dynamic:
The Seven SiIly Eaters
Rainy Day Together
Little Bear books
Richard Scary books
Sylvester and the Magic Pebble
The Ox Cart Man
Support the showLyrics matter. As moms we often care so much about what our kids listen to, but what do I let myself listen to? And will that affect my family? My marriage, my view of God, and what it means to be a mother are at stake.
And don't think for a minute that just because you listen to only Christian music that you're immune from the damage lyrics can do to your mindset and belief. Some Christian artists undermine our view of God too.
Come and let's have a chat together about what we listen to.
I'm not sure I want to be praying for God's justice over the world. I'm still in process, but I know that the world's version of justice is different than God's justice. Justice is a serious word and I'm starting to learn more about what it means. Read Psalm 75 with me and let's pray together for our children and for the world. Let's pray together for boldness and a deep desire to share the gospel with those around us. We don't know when our Lord will return, so let's pray for God's mercy for those around us, even for those who seek to harm and do injustice to others. The church must be different than the world. We must simultaneously hold up God's standard of holiness AND cultivate forgiveness when wronged.

We will examine their message, their influences, and how to not be fooled by them. With all the voices, it can be tough to discern which ones are telling the truth when even demons can say Jesus is the Son of God. So how can we discern who is speaking from the influence of the Holy Spirit and who is being influenced by other spirits.
Jen Hatmaker has so much out there and it would take my lifetime (which I can't commit) to explore the messages of all her book, podcasts, interviews, and speaking events. So, I'll take a couple examples and explore how to discern if what she's saying is worth listening to.

Proverbs is full of wisdom. As we navigate the world around us and all the messages flying our way, how can we decide who to listen to? We must filter all of it through God's Word and today's episode deals with one way I've done this recently. Hope it encourages and challenges you.

For me, there were many indicators, but one big one was yelling. I was a yeller. But that comes with the territory of being a mom doesn't it? Let me tell you a couple stories about how being a knee-jerk mom showed up in my life.

Music is seen as a vehicle to worship. What does God's Word say? Explore the concept with me as we explore Romans 12:1 a bit and examine what we think of when it comes to worship.
