In this episode of Upwards, we explore how following Jesus transforms not only our hearts but also our speech. Paul urges us to “rid ourselves” of slander, filthy language, and lies—three destructive patterns that easily spill from our old nature. Our words carry immense power: they can tear down or bring life, destroy or heal.

Together, we’ll see how slander devalues those made in God’s image, how crude or careless words reveal a heart still ruled by self, and how lying grows out of self-interest. But in Christ, we’ve been given a new identity—and with it, a new way to speak.

As we set our hearts and minds on Him, our words become instruments of grace: to build, bless, and reflect the character of Jesus.
