U.S. Congress Seeking to Ban TikTok
TikTok has been facing scrutiny from the US government due to concerns over its handling of user data and ties to the Chinese government. In August 2020, President Trump issued an executive order that would have banned TikTok from operating in the US unless it was sold to a US company. However, this order was blocked by courts and the Biden administration has put the sale on hold.
Congress has also been looking into the issue, with both Democrats and Republicans expressing concerns about TikTok's data privacy practices and the potential for Chinese government influence. In September 2020, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would prohibit federal employees from using TikTok on government-issued devices, and similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate.
As of now, the situation with TikTok and a potential ban remains unclear, but discussions and investigations are ongoing.
