As of May 4, 2026, the Pentagon has officially announced plans to withdraw approximately 5,000 U.S. troops from Germany over the next 6 to 12 months. This reduction will return the U.S. troop presence in Europe to roughly 2022 levels, the period before Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
